OOC, when did SP divest itself of these cars and what was their fate?

Baggage Next,  then MOW

Actually Express Next, then MofW.  Nearly all horse cars were reassigned to express service during the mid- to late-50s as horse owners moved to other means of moving their cars as well as boarding their animals at the tracks they raced at.  The three doors per side made them very appealing for express service since the sorting of the express could be done using the three doors, making it a good bit easier to get packages off and on.

Late in life the three doors served well when it came to Maintenance of Way tools and supplies for the very same reason... the three doors made it easier to access specific parts of the cars.

Are we sure that this new Horse Car is from Micro-Trains?  Wheels of Time announced an SP Horse Car quite a while ago and has the latest on their web page (http://www.wheelsotime.com/):

...
6. N scale 80-ft Horse-Baggage is in design stage.

...

The image below with their add shows an SP Prototype.  Could it be that both MT and WOT will produce an SP Horse Car? (Just like the IMR and MT FT's all over again?!?!?!)

Both are SP prototypes, but not the same car- the MT is a 70' car, the WoT 80' (I will leave it to the SP experts to designate specific prototypes).  SP modelers will be in 7th heaven, no doubt.  The MT car will be useful for me as a stand in for other roads- so the SP roots don't bother me.

yes...not 'new' news....
both MT AND WOT are producing horse express cars...the MT car is a 70' SP prototype, and the WOT is an 80' SP prototype...
you have to go back a bit, but the announcement from MT is discussed in the heavyweight baggage and RPO/baggage car threads...

.

MT should be 70-BH-3 while the Wheels car is 80-BH.

Looking to have shots of the roof and underframe later this week and will post them.  Anyone going to the NMRA show in Portland later this month will be able to see final shots.  I've also made a deal with a local mule skinner and they will be sending over fresh "pies" to load in each and every one of the Railwire orders for the Horse car.  I know how much you guys value being 100% prototypical.  :)  Right now we are noodling around what the next round of HW's will be...Single Window Coach, Coach/Baggage Combine, and a Harriman Style car top my list.  As soon as I get the green flag on any of these I will let you all know.

Cheers

Um, mules aren't truly horses which were transported in the horse cars, so you would need horse "pies" to be 100% prototypical.  :D

Um, an "a$$"  is yet another type of a beast.  You need to be really precise when posting here.  We have members who will point out the most minute discrepancies.   :D

I also agree with Puddy:  a single window coach would be really, really, really nice!

Careful everyone, be polite, or we will end up with only one car- a single window coach-baggage combine with a Harriman roof.  After selling 135,000 baggage cars, I imagine the MT are in a generous mood, but let's not get pushy.

I can see the issue with single window coaches.  If you produce one with 20 windows, those that want 18 or 22 will be incensed, and if you produce a 22 window car, those that want 18 or 20.... well, you get the idea.

I like the manure idea.  Think about how much that will go for on eBay in 20 years. "Genuine MT horse car manure in original package, from first shipment of horse cars in late 2015....grade C-7, $49.95, expedited shipping available..."  Imitators from oversees will be packing jewel cases full of cow manure and such, hoping to cash in.

But seriously, I'd also favor the single window coach- I'd be in for 4 as soon as the undecs became available (unless you beat me to it and do L&N and 2-tone Erie).
