The 1700 quake has been known for some time, and quite a bit of research has been done on the geological history of the area.

Correct. I first read about this years ago.

Kato will release a CNJ GP40P.

The article is in the New Yorker.
Might as well came from a tabloid..... :facepalm:

Also, my money is on "four aces." It ran on MANY lines, for a long period of time, ending it's career on the NP. From a production stand point, you could use the FEF mech and just tool new trucks, detail parts, and such.

As for a full train set, I still stand by the Olympia Hiawatha with EP2 power....

Actually the article is a good read, even if the tone of the article is a bit of an attention-getter. Nothing in the article isn't possible, and probably 90% of the people living in the Pacific Northwest are unaware of the possibility they will be involved in the real BIG one, not Southern California.

We are far less prepared for a magnitude 9.0+ than Japan, and look how horrible the impact of their 2011 quake was. I just hope our imported trains come in through Long Beach and not Portland or Seattle. :) Once Kato makes a K4, the odds of the BIG ONE probably go up significantly.   :scared:

Unless I am missing something here, in the July 2015 issue of Model Railroad News on page 25, Kato is showing a new "N" scale Siemens "Cities Sprinter" ACS-64 Electric locomotive with 4 Budd Amfleet cars painted in the current Amfleet livery, I do not know it this is the Newly tooled one they are talking about being "new" but if this isn't the one they mentioned, then maybe we have another "New" loco coming out besides this one? gene maddox

That was announced a little while ago along with the kerfuffle over them doing the same number as the locomotive involved in the derailment....SDP45 could still come...

I live in the Pacific NW at near sea level and have a second home on the South Puget Sound.  I have read the article and am keenly aware of the area near Copalis with the dead Cedar tree grove so it is a little alarming but you have to just live life every day.  How cliche!

Okay, so to recap diesel wise;

Maybe a SDP45- win for me , I'll take five.

It could be an SDP40F- awesome, I have tons of passenger cars waiting to be run, I will take three of them.

If it's a U33C /U36C, super sweet, maybe five or six of them.

Win-win-win! So long as it's not steam or electric, I might have to start cutting back on spending money on food!

Course if I'm wrong I will be okay, these things will get made eventually, right?
