The left coast is the best coast.

At least until it falls into the ocean... another report from a couple days ago on CBS claimed a fault above the San Andreas along the northern California coast could lead to more destruction than predicted for the San Andreas.

Actually I think you're referring to the subduction zone issue from CA to BC.  There is a lot out on it, but it's
a recently discovered, recurring problem that will probably oblitherate the entire PNW within the next 50-100 years.

I think the "good" scenario is a 8.7,  the "bad" one is 9.1 and a tsunami that will destroy both the US and Canadian pacific coastlines, as well as most of Japan.

Apparently it happens every 250 years and is way overdue.

Check it out, it is an amazing bit of detective work in even uncovering this, combining geology and putting together stories from Japan and Canadian Indians from the 17th Century.

You are watching too many bad movies or Fox News.

Hmm... well, that explains
it...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

The summaries of the NW earthquake article I've seen in the NW media indicate that, while somewhat sensationalized, the basic facts are correct.  The biggest danger, outside the west side cities, is tsunamis.  East of the Cascades it will just be a serious quake, not the end of the world, and east of the Coast Ranges the danger will be mainly to cities and infrastructure.   In one of the Puget Sound cities, or Portland, things could be pretty bad.  Seattle in particular has a lot of development on fill, making "liquefaction" one of the major concerns.

This isn't a new prediction.  The 1700 quake has been known for some time, and quite a bit of research has been done on the geological history of the area.

We all know Fox's reliable informant is The Onion...  :D

What if the newly tooled loco is just the ACS64, they announced months ago?
If it really is the SDP45 then I guess that's ok... Unless they are making a CF7! Or a GP7u!! ( I doubt that but it wouldn't be hard for Atlas to make a GP7u...

While we're guessing wildly, I'd like a new 0-6-0. Something designed for DCC and lights.

Kato will come out with an FL9. Next Atlas, then Bachmann will do it. Then MRC/Model Power. BLI too, probably. Because somebody else is already making one. Just the way N scale works.

There's a lot of danger to smaller coastal communities like Eureka, Coos Bay, Lincoln City, etc. These places have limited egress routes that would get quickly clogged in the event of a major tsunami evacuation, not too mention the significant likelihood of these routes being physically severed by slides.  Remember, a tsunami hit Crescent City, California tsunami as recently as 1964 destroying hundreds of buildings and killing 12.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
