N-scale Varnish User's Guide Updated

If you are like me then from time to time you go in search of new products that have been released in N-scale to see how well the scale overall has been growing.  New items help to make the scale more acceptable to those who use it, making for a lot of pleasure for some who are able to purchase such things.  One area that the growth of the scale can be determined is where the scale now stands in regards to passenger car models.

I created the User's Guide so that modelers who are curious about what can be modeled in their chosen roadname could have an easy to use list of what is available from various manufacturers and it has, since its creation, lead to some gaining not only a greater understanding of what makes N-scale great but also has led to some modelers building or otherwise gathering together more appropriate models.

With the new Update there are 8 new pages and 17 Updated pages and I hope that, as you have time, you will stop by the site and check things out.  Below is the link to the homepage...

In the New Haven section you list "USP" as the manufacturer of several cars. Except your listing key does not have "USP" defined. ???

Are core kits actually available?  The ALM website shows them as 'coming soon'.
How are you supposed to know which core kit to use?

Jerry,
I did note that you will need to update the CN listing now. MT is coming out with their Baggage /RPO in CN.

This was posted to the N-scale Varnish list by me with permission back on April 26:

ATTENTION ALL N SCALERS!
As many people know, the American Limited passenger car core kit has been unavailable for many years due to technical difficulties with the detail parts tooling. I have been corresponding with the San Juan Car Co., owners of the American Limited line, concerning the return of their N scale core kit to the market.

As it turns out, San Juan Car can produce the sprue with the roof, floor and ends in Black or Grey. They are willing to sell these "body" sprues for $5 each, plus shipping.

Send an email to: sanjuancar@durango.net
State the quantity and color of the sprues you want.
Provide your address.
Provide any special shipping instructions, like Express Mail or insurance.

They will provide the total via email.

PayPal is preferred. Send payment to sanjuancar@durango.net. Make sure you send as "goods or services" to preserve your buyer protection. I recommend you put a short description in the note. For example: 10 black body sprues, plus shipping".

If you don't have PayPal, they can process credit cards in their store. Provide your phone and the best time to call you.

Please be patient. This item is being offered as a courtesy to N scale modelers. This is not available through their website. We didn't discuss it, but don't expect retail packaging or instructions.

If he asks, tell him Keith Kempster sent you.

So while the detail part sprue is still very problematic at least the core parts themselves can be obtained.

Not appropriate since the prototype isn't reasonably close to being accurate for anything CN had.  Like the baggage - mail it is a very rare prototype that is interesting and unique but only matches a very small number of cars.  The Wheels of Time baggage, while not being quite so fine with its details, has a much wider application because similar cars can be found... wish it was true of the MT cars as well...
