MTL has introduced a new heavyweight body

The July new product listing features an new body, Mail/Baggage and introduces the first heavyweight car for Canadian National in the green/black/gold 1954 paint scheme. Also introduced in for the same body is the Burlington mail/baggage.

Totally awesome.

Oh sure, mail baggage cars AND I can expect to send even more money every month for CN cars (how about GTW?).  It was so much easier to pay the mortgage back in the day when there were only Rivarossi and Minitrix passenger cars.  At the rate this is going, probably be followed by a single window coach and baggage car in Erie 2 tone, and who knows what after that.

That CN car they are releasing. Does anyone know the car #? Can't make it out in any shots. I figure it's gonna be a "Foob" but should be a fairly close representation.

Is the Micro-Trains CB&Q baggage/mail car prototypical for the CB&Q?

I am going to buy one, but I am curious as I can't find that specific window arrangement in the Morning Sun book "Color Guide to CB&Q Freight and Passenger Equipment".

Regardless, it's a welcome release (as are all of the heavyweights being developed and released from MT), the CB&Q baggage-mail is one of those 'generic' examples of the type, just as the Erie baggage a 'generic' 70' baggage. It can stand in for an Erie baggage-mail, or a Santa Fe baggage-mail, to name a few...
I have a photo-etched M&R Sides fret for a correct Santa Fe version of the type....



However, as it fits the new MT 70' Erie baggage, I'll use that car for the build. I WILL purchase one of these as an actual CB&Q car to run with various Burlington consists on the T-Trak setups.
I'm really glad to see MT stepping up and filling a gap for us who model passenger consists....I'm already looking forward to the SP 70' Horse car!

While a CBQ prototype the car is very close to some CNR cars - certainly passing the three foot test.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

70' baggage-mail with 30' mail compartment is about as common a car as ever existed.  Although for Wabash (one road I model), the most common version had 2 baggage doors on each side, sure enough, when I checked enough photos, they also had cars very similar to the MT car.  And they were so common, it is likely to "look right" in almost any paint scheme, other than maybe PRR or a Harriman line (although I will not be shocked if they sell more painted for PRR and UP than for CB&Q).  For ATSF cars, I will continue to count rivets and build from M&R sides, but this car sure is very close to many road's baggage-mail cars.

Did CN ever have a "US Mail Railway Post Office" car.
I thought CN was CANADIAN National.

It looks really close. It's interesting the the CN car is labeled US Railway Post Office. I didn't realize they did that.

Some of the CN cars were used on routes in the eastern US, and indeed said "US Railway Post Office".  When I get home later, I will check my Railway Post Office History for routes.  It also has a couple photos, I think, of CN cars in service on US mail routes.

Have been wondering if they were ever used over GTW between Port Huron or Detroit and Chicago.  Anyone know?

There was some CN equipment used on the Grand Trunk line in Maine and New Hampshire, as well as the Central Vermont. I am fairly certain  there was a CN car labeled US Post used on the local on the Grand Trunk from time to time.
