Greetings Ron. As usual, great work, and superb craftsmanship. May not be as pretty as some might like, but well thought out and fully functional.

I expect it to slip again. They make fine products, but you just have to wait . . . and wait some more. When was the M-1 first announced? I do feel sympathy for them--I just announced the big C-3 freighter about four years later than I thought. These projects just get backed up . . . and backed up some more.

Lookin' good, Ron!

Your competition has slipped again.

August for the Centipede and "fall" for the M1.

Well, I guess that gives me a little time to paint this one and sell it.

What would be the paint scheme that would be most desirable to a PRR fan?

I have PRR decals, but have no idea what people love/like/hate.

Ron,
A certificate with your signature is likely to be a higher value

Heh heh heh.  That gives me time to paint this one and sell it.   :P

DGLE five stripe, for sure. Then again, whenever the BLI's come out, that's what they'll be. Not sure off the top of my head if these made it to broad stripe or not.

Tru dat.

The PRR Centipede BP60  was painted Dark Green Locomotive Enamel (DGLE) (Brunswick Green) 5 stripe in passenger service. When the centipede failed in passenger service and when to helper service the BP50 was still  DGLE with broad single stripe.

Ron,

Reading this has been both inspiring and intimidating! I'm at a loss for words...  :)

Thanks Ryan.

I've made a new discovery (always learning about Kumata brass).

The Centipede runs wonderfully-- for the most part.
I was getting a short somewhere.

Shorting is something Kumata locos are plagued with.  Getting them to run well, often entails stopping the shorting.

I traced it to the front pilot truck.   It was just too near the 4-axle truck right behind it.

I filed both the pilot and the power truck.  Better, but still too close.

Then I tried something.  I pulled the wheels out of the pilot truck and reversed them.  Of course to maintain proper polarity, I then had to reverse the whole truck.

Presto.  No more shorting and there is now a better gap between the pilot and power trucks.

Your picture is right on for when the centipede was in passenger service.

Precisely. DGLE = Dark Green Locomotive Enamel, also known as Brunswick Green.

And thanks Judd for jogging my memory. They went to narrow stripe freight paint later in life.

Thanks again guys.

Unit is disassembled totally now.

I have to do a little cleaning.

Then hopefully in the next week I can sandblast it and apply primer.

Since they are both Pennsy, I'm doing a brass Trainmaster at the same time.
