Thanks Carter. Maybe someone out there has a real one they can measure. In the meantime I will see what I can do. The one (overall width) dimension that I did get was off of a sales spec sheet.

I've noticed the same thing about some manufacturers (including myself) having variables in scale. Fidelity is of utmost importance followed by precise scale. Placement often saves the day.

I think there is also some perception issues at work here.  Modern cars have grown quite a bit, and modern trucks even more so. What used to be a pickup cab, is now almost a full 8'6" wide. Noses are taller and everything streamlined to increase fuel economy. We see these larger vehicles and we interpret that older vehicles were just as large.

Take a look at this Freightliner:

That truck behind it? A Mack B series. The difference really is a bit shocking.

Back to Rasputen's model, which I am greatly interested in since Athearn refuses to budge on N scaling its HO model (which I imagine is where this model came from)...  What readily available frame does this mate to and has anyone completed any in paint to see?


I'm going on a Spring Break vacation but I will probably will have one of the 5 I have completed by the end of the week of the 13th.  The first one is on a lengthened CMW frame but I'll probably scratch build the frames for the rest.

I'm not sure where you got the 8'6" dimension Daniel but anything over 96" is considered oversized according to Federal specs.

I agree that modern vehicles are once again pushing the limits of size but they can only get so big.

The point you made about the (little) Mack B is valid. If you have ever gotten into the cab of one of those older trucks, they were not exactly roomy.
