Coil car is a very good guess, although the relatively recent appearance of the Atlas model casts some doubt.

By that logic Craig shouldn't have tooled a beer car, since Atlas and intermountian both have them.

Given Craig's philosophy of multiple numbers, a plain jane crude tanker would blow the walls out...

Who wouldn't want to run a nice long train?   Like with the ARMNs or the 89 foot flats.  Just can't get enough of them.

While I would love a new updated 4740 Grain Hopper. I do believe we will have a new tank car.

It's a Bakken Oil Exploding Tanker! Just set the spring-loaded trigger on the frame and carefully place the sectioned tank body parts on the rocker arms. Then watch what happens when it derails on a Peco frog! REALISTIC ACTION!
Buy a set of 10 cars and run them all together for some explosive fun! :trollface:

Look at Craigs summer railfanning video .. @ 26:44 ... gray hopper -- covered coil car ;)  --- except the trees don't quite match

Close, but the sun is coming from two different angles in those images. Not the same.   My guess tank car.

If a tank car I'm torn between the latest version on the rails - you know, the "safer" car that still blows up when it's in a derailment - see West Virginia - and the DOT 111.  Either way, we do need a unit train worth of crude tankers.

As noted earlier, it does appear to have shelf couplers, and the absence of a shadow on the trucks (unlike the covered hopper) suggests high side clearance, so a tanker it is.  I'd love to see a sulphur tanker, but it seems too long for that.  I'd be delighted with any modern-era tanker that Craig decides to do. :)

They are right when they say you need a lot of knowledge to be a model railroader (who is guessing new product)

Coupler types, car lengths, DOT standards, shadow patterns.....you guys seem to be putting it all together!

I like this guess, because:
(1) the truck wheelbase seems about right;
(2) you'll notice that the bottom of the black box on the BLMA advertisement has to ride low to hide those appliances under the tank; and
(3) that covered hopper in the ad makes sense as a spacer car.

Sadly, however, this car is probably too new for my era. :(
