Dunno if this means anything, but at least IM is aware of the Flexicoil (see the artwork):

I thought that was the case. That's why I reacted as strongly as I did to Pete's comment. My fingers are crossed.

Getting the trucks right is definitely an important factor in my purchasing decisions.

The artwork sure looks better with a frame filling the gap.

I would hope so, since someone from IMRC bought our last copy of the Conrail SD40/SD40-2 book from us at Springfield 2 years ago...

Has anyone heard a release date for these yet ?  I was going thru my saved emails folder and found my reservation email at the LHS.  It was from March 9, 2014. Original release date was Oct/Nov '14.

Here's the current info from IMRC's web-site. SD40-2's are about half-way down the page ---

With IMRC I'm not holding my breath, I will wait until actual product has hit shelves, cause its not the first time they have announced something then taken two years or more to hit shelves after their "due date"

But I am waiting I need something that will make my Kato SD40 start looking for a new home...
I definitely need ATSF and H3 BNSF... That would make me happy.

September is going to be an expensive month if the FP9's show up too, cause I have one of those on order.

I want to state for the record that I really like Intermountain's products. They have been nothing but kind to me.

Seeing their sd40-2s in HO though makes me a bit nervous as to color choices and lettering font choices.

They are a great company with a great philosophy. I just have to wait to see the 40s in person first.

Heh, I'm with you, Philip.  While, on one hand, I've long looked forward to a high quality model of the SD40-2 in N scale (SCL is also due out in October), on the other hand, I'm already expecting to be slammed before the year is out when Atlas releases three B36-7s, three GP38-2s, two MP15DCs, and two SD35s decorated for the Seaboard System.  Oh, and then there's the cost of the necessary decoders.

Specifically, what were the issues?

They look quite good.  The windows seem a bit rough to my eye.

The trucks look to be Atlas and I wonder if this is the SD50/60 chassis?

Atlas, FVM, and IM are all made in the same factory in china and designed by the same company, so it is no suprise that they would look the same.

Also in the photos there is NO TREAD PLATE!!! What is up with that?

So unlike Apple Computer products where the are "Designed in US and made in China", these are completely done in China?  That explains a lot (why they aren't designed to Kato-like precision standard).

I do know that some IM parts (like the truck assemblies)  are in fact identical to Atlas ones.
