While not an expert on SD40-2's the Canadian version seems well executed. The correct nose brake wheel arrangement, the nose light and high cab bell all done correctly. The cab is missing a Sinclair antenna that was common on as built CP units (until replaced by a fire cracker) but that's most likely a finishing part. Nice to see a Canadian unit represented.

I noticed that, too. My SWAG is the windows are likely pre-production stand-ins; I would guess the tooling's not done for them yet.

Nice models so far, but I'm not going to get excited until they do a proper UP version.

I wouldn't even look at the "glass" - it's one of the last things to be done on a model and we often don't have the properly injected part until the very last pre production model.

Hmm, these all have the corrugated radiator intakes (phase 1b and up or in other words mid '77 & up) - I wonder if they are tooling the "early" style ...

Better not be the SD50/60 chassis (it's longer than a SD40-2).

Yes, they are HTC trucks, used on SD40-2, SD38-2, SD50, and SD60 (maybe others).

Since the trucks IM used on the tunnel motors are the Atlas trucks, I assume the trucks on these are also the Atlas trucks.

These are looking pretty good. With scale width hoods and correctly scaled number boards (among other things), if they give us the early versions these just might spell the end for my Kato units.

Hopefully the number boards are also on the todo list.

The hatches all look a little thick.

And the fit of the db hatch area into the hood looks a bit off too.

I hope they pick up in those issues, fix em, then hit the decoration out of the park.

I know the first thing I'd do if I were to buy one.  I'd figure out how to put a frame under it somehow. 
That area below the deck looks terrible.

Well if they are doing these like all their other models I am going to assume here that all the roof parts are separate pieces as well as the grills. Also I was noticing that the handrails are clear just as the windows. Do you think these just happen to be RP for test fitting purposes?

It's quite possible that many add on parts, railing, glazings, even trucks are "stand in" or RP parts. The danger in showing pre production samples is that modellers will assume and/or fear that something they see is a final version where it might not be. In reality, when you show a pre production sample the manufacturer is well served by listing the "disclaimer" list of things on the model that are still in development - it saves them from being harranged over a part that is not yet done and saves the potential consumer the worry of having to see something they don't like and letting it affect their potential purchase.
