Great weathering work this week.

HuskerN, those trucks are great.  I received a pair this week and the separate tires is brilliant- nice slip fit that will make painting much easier.

On Pud's first 2 cars, notice the coupler droop. Bought this up a few years ago. One suggestion was MTL needs to retool. I've had the droop with Z905's too:(

Or, body-mount the couplers so you have more control to adjust the coupler tolerance.

Repost of a finished modeling project otherwise hidden in the electronics sub-forum:

I'm still working on getting yellow working. This is a Showcase Miniatures signal modified to use a micro-micro-micro LED.

Wow!  Those look outstanding.

Damn, Josh, your talent for weathering has just taken off.  That is a beautiful job.  The ride height, however, leaves something to be desired.

I finally finished the ESM Keyser Valley caboose.  Back when I was modeling the EL this and the Erie Dunmore built caboose were my two "had to have" models.  I bashed the Dunmore (more or less) but never tackled the KV version.  Although I don't model early 70's EL anymore I was pleased to see Bryan's model come to market.  A well done kit with the finest brass & stainless etched parts I've ever seen.  My mediocre finishing skills don't do the model justice but I'm happy with how it turned out.

SAH, you nailed the Grey, Maroon and Yellow EL caboose.  I have a few under my belt and yours is top notch.  Excellent work!

Dave, that's snow up to the sills.  When Josh weathers, he REAALLY weathers!

Not much to report here, at least not on the layout.  I pulled another chunk of the old Western Maryland out of the storage bin and pressed it back into service as a couple of staging tracks.

You may recall this as the approach to Elkins on the Thomas Sub.

This section crossed the window in the old train room above the Potomac River scene, which is now in the capable hands of Randy Gustafson.

In other news, I got to spend the week in San Diego and environs, and enjoyed a behind the scenes visit to the Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park.  The N scale layout was covered in a nice feature in N Scale magazine in 2012.  It's quite a nice piece of work.

My host was Steve Seidensticker, who in addition to helping run the N scale layout, also has a beautiful garden railroad.  The planes of reality cross in his front yard, where he has a model of Tunkhannock Viaduct, which he built to N scale proportions, but runs his 1:32 trains over.

He built the master out of various materials, made a casting mold, and then built the bridge out of poured concrete.  It's absolutely a stunner!

I also got to visit the Pacific Southwest Railroad Museum in Campo, and enjoyed their vast collection of stuff.

And of course, downtown San Diego is a hotbed of neat passenger operations.

The harbor down the road offered some good stuff, too.

Now that the wanderings are over, gotta get back to work on paying for it all!

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? STAY TUNED FOR MORE ADVENTURES IN WEATHERING!

https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=35130.105

I looked at your photo three times before I realized it wasn't a snow scene.  I'm still snow blind since the wife and I just came in from shoveling 8" of the real thing off of the driveway.

Whether its snow or a paper towel, that is some great weathering!
Best regards,

Roger

Another great week of weather so that means lots of great modeling.

Pud Love the weathering.

C855B Great Little Signals.

Dave V I love what you did with that bowl. Filling it with dirt makes it look a lot better

Josh you have a great talent for weathering now.

Huskern the trucks look great.

SAH that caboose is all ready for the ghetto.

Lee it is easy to model when all you have to do is take a piece of  the layout from the box.  That is like using pre built building.

As for me after starting to paint the VIA Telus loco 2 years ago I finally finished it up.

Visitors in town!  A pair of Mitch Legg's (Leggy) SD80s custom painted and detailed by Brian Kuhn (Flight 2000) are at the Oakville fuel rack.  We'll be seeing more of them...

Some folks are curious about the Sub - and I really didn't have a track plan handy.  Managed to resurrect 3rdPlanIt and here's what I came up with - finally an up to date plan!  It's not accurate to the inch, but pretty close, so for those who are curious, here Ya go:

Beautiful job on the caboose and the paint job, but if I may, those fat roller skate wheels really detract from an otherwise excellent model...YMMV
