Fun! Most of what I wanted to see was on Friday so I ducked out Saturday morning to head to the RBQ. Got to meet Bill and Sally Lewis. Those two are something else! (The good kind! Super nice folks.)

Those cars are very sexy, Josh, even if they are dirty girls.  ;)  Nice work.

It's been a while. I've been working on a Downtown Deco house. I started a new thread looking for tips and it inadvertently turned in to a build/weathering thread.

I'm doing up some baggage cars next. I'm not thrilled just yet, but I've only just used 2 colors of dirt sprays.

One of each car is not weathered for comparison.

I'm not sure where to go next. I don't know if washes will make them too weathered. I'm going for a light touch on these.

Started working on this RPO. The dullcoat messed up the powders a bit.

Model got light sprays of dirt, dust, and roof brown. I hit the side panels with some powders.

The PRR FD2. Here she is roughly 5 years in to service.
I did a light rust fade over the whole thing. Then I hit it with some light grays and tan sprays. I tried to rub a little off with a brush to simulate some streaks. After that, powders were applied to the deck.
I'm not unhappy, but even after dullcoat, it still looks a bit greasy.

Thoughts?

i agree its not flat enough.  Not sure how to remedy that - could you do a light dirt colored chalk over the whole thing?

Looks fabulous otherwise.  Perhaps she can serve as an extra when Eric gets around to hosting ops sessions again.

Josh, maybe a light wash of Van Dyke Brown all over. Let it dry then another spray of dulcote.

I actually think I forgot to dullcoat the flat car. Whoops. Looks better now.

What do you guys think about the streaks on the RPO? I think they are a little too pronounced. It looks like I just sprayed a thick blast from an airbrush.

When you point it out, there seems to be some tiger striping with those streaks.  I wouldn't redo the model, though.  In fact, for me, I'd probably leave it alone.  But, you're much better at this than me, so perhaps you can blend it a little with some chalk weathering or go back over those areas with an airbrush and some diluted PRR base color to minimize the striping.

I didn't really notice it until you pointed it out, so I vote for leaving well enough alone.
