DO NOT PUSH THE FEF ON THE TRACK. Yes, I know I'm repeating it for the 3rd time. Don't do it.

No, no, it's okay, really, go ahead and push it along the track, just make sure to make appropriate choo choo noises while doing it...
All in good fun, I swear!

as for a digital leveling tool
there is a free app for cellphones (I guess they are actually more than just a phone...Droid and the like...)
works well
have one on my wife's Droid (I use a flip open phone that is just a phone)

Thanks for everyone's suggestions!

To answer some of the questions posed in responses:

What type of track am I using?: The track I am using on the particular curved section I am dealing with first was laid with Atlas Code 80 11" radius track. I have stayed away from doing any tight curves with flex-track. I am always worried that I may bend some section of it into an undesirable ( and unintended ) radius.

How did I check the radius?: I took several sections of Atlas 11" radius track and connected them together. I then laid these on top of the existing track (which was laid with Atlas 11" radius track) to confirm that both sets of track looked identical. To my naked eye, they were.

What's next:
-I'll get my NMRA gauge out and will check the gauge of the track.
-I have ordered a digital level similar to the one MicroMark has (but at less cost). I do have a level on my cellphone that I may also try to use.
-I'll get the bright light out and look for any kinks in the rails.

Probably won't get to some of this until this weekend or next weekend. I'll report back and will probably have some more questions!

Thanks,
Bart

Atlas Code 80 11" radius track.

If you are using sectional track, I would assume (haven't used it myself since I was a kid in the 1960s) that the radius is in fact 11" for each section.  However, the point at which you join 2 sections together could in theory be "kinked", couldn't it?  If so, this would effectively yield a radius other than 11".  Other than that, the first thing I would check, as you plan to do, is the gauge.
