Work continued today on the paper mill expansion.  I decided to drop and solder new feeders and paint the track.  I shot the sides with brown, then directly overhead straight down with black.  It shows a lot better in person than the photos.  I also tested some building placement and coal train length.  I might need some more NS hoppers  :D

I know I've said it before, but I LOVE the town being mixed in like that. It really captures the flavor of that place.

I'm really trying to get some of the buildings I got from @LIRR onto the layout.  Only Spring Grove and Hanover have room for a town setting.

Also, not sure if you caught it or not, but with the addition, I have 2 tracks heading off the layout.  Which is a nice straight section.  Which means very easy connection to future expansion :)

So, after messing with wiring and automatic reversers all week, I think I have them figured out.  I was able to run a train from the wye at Porters, thru both isolated switches/reversing sections, thru the loop at the paper mill and back to Porters.

Then I went back to work laying out rest of the trackwork at the mill.  I still have one track to lay in, but that won't happen until I get some buildings done as it was an interior siding for loading paper.  First up was the easy one, a spare siding used for holding extra cars.  Sometimes, cars are thrown in there, never to be called upon again.

Then I laid out the chemical tracks that are in the center of the property.  I need to pick up another #6 turnout for here, I used a #8 but that takes up too much space.  I also set up a temporary warehouse until I can scratchbuild a proper one.

Cool shot Richie, I've seen that building and never tried to get back there.

Here's the location next to the Minnesota Commercial.

That was one of MicroTrains weathered releases.

I inferred from the thread you are planning to put a backdrop on this scene. I don't think you need one. It's a "slice" of the world, not needing a backdrop nor a "front drop". Plus access to everything would be very easy. Maybe a low plexiglass wall to keep things from falling off, but certainly no high solid obstructing wall. And then you don't have to fuss about making 2-dimension paintings mesh with 3D objects.
It looks perfectly fine now w/o a backdrop edge. Just like a island-style layout doesn't need one.

I strongly disagree!

Photo backdrops do WONDERS for the realism of a layout.

I do think, however, given the space it's in, that it'd make quite a bit of sense if the backdrop was easily removable.

I'm thinking of having backdrops for photos, but during ops sessions they would be taken down.

The CSX Hanover Subdivision took delivery of 3 new power units today.  Here they are sitting on an extra track at Hagerstown Yard.  MP15DC #1141, GP40 #6796, and GP40-2 #6400 are waiting for mechanics to go over them before they start earning their keep for the railroad.  All 3 are decoder equipped, with #1141 and 6400 being factory Atlas jobs while #6796 is a custom paint job for the Operation Redblock, Chicago Division scheme.  D797 can be seen the background ready to depart for it's trip to Hanover.  SD70MAC's #713/734 will handle those duties.
