New Annual Nag for Cory- SBD System/CSX

After nagging Cory for years that he needed to do one last Chessie safety caboose....  He not only did that but added the Careful Handling cars.  Zonkers!   Wonderful!

So that caboose nagging is officially over.

Time to grovel again.

Atlas makes a WONDERFUL B30-7 and B36-7.
They have made that loco in LOTS of paint schemes (well, the B30.... not so much on the B36).


If you model CSX like I do, then Atlas has given us great B30-7s.
CSX Blue  and Gray.
CSX Transportation (yay!)
Chessie (2 runs!)
and SBD System.

But the B36-7 has only been run once according to Atlas' info page.  And that was 13 years ago!  Yikes!

CSX Transportation formed on July 1, 1986.  It was the merger of Chessie and the SBD System.

At that time, the pre-eminent high horsepower reliable locomotives on the system, were the B36-7s which the Seaboard System had purchased only one or two years before.

Because they were fairly new and reliable high hp, CSX placed these locos on some of their most valuable trains- the intermodals.

THIS was the face of CSX for a couple of years after the merger.




Here is another shot-  look at the date.  1991!!!  Most of these are STILL in SBD System livery!



And this shot is a classic of what I saw around 1988 down around I-10 corridor in the Florida panhandle.
Just look at this hotshot lineup.
A B36-7 on the point.
a leased SD45
an ancient U25B (cr@p by this time- one of only 4 left).
and THREE more B36-7s.... yes all in SBD System paint.




So Cory, I'm begging, please make this loco.
You don't even have to subletter it for CSX (I'll do it).
But this was the top of the line loco when CSX started.

CSX modellers need them.

You're right, Ron.  B36-7s were the hottest power on the SBD at the time of the CSX mereger.  I'd be on board and would support your request.  Thankfully, Atlas has been very kind to SCL/SBD modelers in N scale: B30-7s, SD50s, and U23Bs..  Rumor has it that we may see some Geeps in SBD paint in the next GP38-2 announcement.

Those early CSX/SBD B36s are hot.

I so wish they'd be able to make the argument to tool up the CR versions of the B36s, for very much the same reason.

Who knows.  You might be more in luck.

Atlas' page shows that they only made two B36-7s (unless they just made an omission leaving out a release).

And BOTH of them have the anticlimber.  BC Rail and SF.

SBD System had no anticlimber.
But I'm under the impression that the walkways between the B30 and the B36 are about the same otherwise.

As modular as the Atlas components are, it's not possible to combine the B36-7 body with the B30-7 walkway/sill?

How about a CSX YN2 B30-7, Atlas did it in HO but not in N and of course a B36-7 would be cool as well.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

I wish it were just the anticlimber, but... the CR units (and some from other roads) actually have a significant car body difference that crosses the line of what Atlas will do as a foob with their Master Line stuff.

While we're asking for B36-7's why not request them for the 16 that the SP had (http://espee.railfan.net/spb36-7.html) or the 4 for the Cotton Belt (http://espee.railfan.net/sswb36-7.html)?

I'm not sure I see enough differences.


Looks pretty good to me.

And I agree with Bryan.  The B30-7 non-anticlimber should be able to be used for CSX and SP B36-7 walkways.

That is a GOOD list!  And with the exception of ATSF, Atlas has done NONE of those.

Hey Cory,

I agree with someone above.
If you are going to do a CSX,  do it in a scheme you have NEVER done.

That is the CSX-Y  or what I call, the CSX transition scheme.

You have indeed done CSX locos with a yellow nose, but a CSX old Blue and gray --- with yellow added to the nose (I think you did a great GP38 that way) is NOT the same as the CSX-Y scheme (even though they are similar).

Here is the whole list of what you COULD do with this scheme.

What makes it unique is GRAY stepwells,
Yellow on the nose that does NOT cross the blue on the nose.
Yellow on back end that ALSO does not cross the blue at the roof.
BLACK pilots and BLACK underframe.
NO blue stripe at the bottom of the body (just above the walkway)

So, this is NOT the transition scheme (you have already done something like this):



The Trasition scheme is different.
Here are some CSX-Y that are B36-7.  Do these!  Once again, this is a scheme you have never done.

CSX is so weird.

Also, there is a difference that is enough that Atlas has said they won't do it. I can't pick it out, but I know it exists.

I've got a great paperback book on CSX locomotives and its predecessors.  It has a section that describes the paint schemes of CSX, including all of the transitional schemes.  Some of them even had blue trucks and fuel tanks!
