Drawing the N scale Baldwin RT 624

I am almost done with the new RT 624, took a bit longer than expected as I kept finding differences between it and the DT6-6-2000 but I am close.  As for the trucks I was hoping to use the DT6-6-2000 ones but on closer inspection the Pesny/Baldwin updated the trucks.  Only some had the same as the DT6-6-2000, like this....

Most had newer trucks, which I originally thought where the same as the C-628 but sadly not, that look like this...

I dint think I will bother with ones like this... :D

Anyway my question is on the newer trucks, looking at the front one on the second photo above, there is an extra 'strap' over the middle axel box.

This does not appear on the other truck.  Or does it? Is this a detail that is on one side of each ruck making each truck the same, just rotated 180° or is it on both sides if the front truck only?

I have all the info to finish drawing the trucks except this bit.  I think these are the same trucks as used on the AS616?

If you look on the trailing unit it shows up on the last truck . If the big half on the truck in on the viewers right , is this shots commonality at least .

If it turns out as good as the ATSF models I would not mind one or two. I think only the Pennsy and the MNS had that model.
Great spotting I did not even notice that truck mod.

I think your right with the commonality; I will make both trucks the same, just asymmetric.

Hi Scott,

This will fit onto an Atlas C628/C630 without any modifications to the chassis, (Except turning the trucks 180°).

Hi All,

Well the Baldwin RT 624 draings are done.just about!

This shell has been improved over the DT6-6-2000.  I have made the horns separate parts, moved all the grills and number boards, lengthened the walkway on one side only making one of the handrails unique, added the roof top antenna.  Removed the curved section where the cab meats the walkway, removed the large plates that covered the fuel and air tanks.  Added a replacement fuel and air tank section, shortened the stacks & created new trucks as the RT had different ones to the DT.

The new antenna are brass etchings, which will also come with handrails.  I have made the new brass etchings out of 12 thou brass, the DT had 8 thou which I feel where to thin, they will also be a bit wider also making them stronger.

I haven’t ordered the brass yet and I would like to get a rough idea of how many to order, the more I get the cheaper they become.  Can anybody who is interested let me know via PM, email or on here, thanks.

This shell and parts will be available in a few weeks, after the test print, on Shapeways in the FUD material.  I will also be able to offer this in a higher quality print at 16 microns resolution with specified orientation from another source but that will cost a bit more, I will have more info on that soon.

Awesome.  I have been wanting one of these for a long time.  I have some 1950s photos of these monsters in Johnstown (Conemaugh).  I believe they were used in helper service over the mountain.

I have not looked, but I believe that the Microscale PRR hood unit decals should work for this.

Count me in.
