MTL 1972 Series

MTL has announced a pretty neat series: celebrating their original releases from 1972:

That's a cool idea. I don't need any 40' cars, but I feel like that's a good way to celebrate an anniversary without doing some gaudy monstrosity.

I think that's just how kits came.  My earliest 72 era cars were in jewel cases.

The boxes will have retro paper inserts, so visually the product will look like the original 1972 releases.

OK If any model deserves special attention given to the jewel case... it's THIS!!!!!   

If your going to properly model a 1972 release Micro Trains car.. You might as well go all out ..

Does anyone have some 1972 factory air to sample?

At the rate of inflation, the cars at $3.50 in 1972 should cost $19.96  today.

Agreed, cool but the question is - are these exact duplicates of the original models, or
new artwork that corrects any original errors?

I would think they have to be different - otherwise the collectors will go nuts!  DUH, the road numbers will be different.

I wonder if they'll add the end reporting marks, as they have on more recent releases?  Or keep the artwork original except for changing the numbers?

Question of the day.. will they base the artwork on the 1972 version,. the 1990 version or the 1998 version??

OK, so we're not sure about end numbers, or whether the printing has been corrected/updated.  What about the wheels?  Will they have ribbed backs?

When I read 72 Series I immediately tried to fund out how to order my Henderson, Esposito and Tretiak cars... What a bummer to find out they are just commorative reprints.....
