I've been working on the river crossing on my layout.

I almost hesitate to post a picture of my progress on the layout because there is a lot that is temporary and final decisions that have yet to be made, but here you go.  Some more rock work needs to be done.  The river bed was painted just so it's not white but it is not the final color.  The backdrop is a printout that I will probably use but is not attached. I have yet to decide what to do for ground cover.  I have to work on the talus slopes and, of course, grow a lot of trees.  The top valence is just s piece of 1x3 painted and tacked in place to test where the final facia will be.

I like the "window to the world" look. So far it looks awesome. What kind of lighting are you using under the valence?

I've been busy mostly with electronics and signalling work, but I did have time to get a few more tracks down in the yards.

All this G scale awesomeness is really making me start to contemplate stockpiling G scale supplies for 5 or ten years down the road; greats shots guys!

Nicely done backdrop!  Very realistic! 
But on a serious note, that is one impressive yard!  Even N-Trakkers would be jealous!  It is amazing how much more you can do in N scale (in the same square footage) than in the larger scales.

Thanks Jimmo.  I plan on using rope LEDs and maybe some "spot lights" to highlight certain areas.

After 9 months or so of hard work, our family has completed its latest scratch building project!

Born at 6:06 PM yesterday; 7lbs 0.5 oz and 22.25 inches long.

No name yet . . . and yes I am aware that's one of the things you are supposed to do in the 9 months leading up to event.

Now, where'd I leave my trains?

Have you tested rope lights yet? I have yet to see one that appears to illuminate enough. As an experiment, I currently have several strings of white Christmas LEDs on a 1' x 4' section of my shelf-style railroad. It's still not quite bright enough. I'm looking at those dimmable LED strips (used under cabinets, etc), adding rows until I get the brightness I need.

The color of your facia appears to be exactly what I was thinking of using. Seeing it in a similar setting convinces me to proceed.

Looking good. Will the final valance strip be low enough to hide the hilltop at left? That's a battle I am fighting on my layout as I build right now. I guess clearance between decks is like staging: we always wish we had room for more.
