Well, you can forget DT624, that was a mistake on my part. I meant RT624. Baldwin changed their naming convention around the time of the RT624. Under the old convention it would have been a DT-6-6-2400. Then again, there's always the Pennsy designation of BRS24.

I would love to see you do this, but in all fairness the emoticon I included was key to my post.  The only thing that is the same on the rebuilds is the cab, trucks and frame.  The hood is widened and its height lowered with 'ramps' up to the top of the cab; and the doors, stacks, grills, stacks, headlight, number boards, etc. are different.  Here's a single image for you to study.  Still, for the EJ&E the rebuilds are archetypal and, if you are interested, I'll find photos for you.

Now that James has been kind enough to produce a shell, I am thinking about adding an EJE unit (with original Baldwin hood) to my layout.  When were the rebuilds done? (I am hoping after 1956, so I can use the Baldwin shell)  Also, what were the detail differences between ATSF and EJE versions of the Baldwin body?

The rebuilds started happening at around '56.  Rest easy.  There were technically two rebuilding programs; one that used an other-than-stock Baldwin engine and the loco body remained practically unchanged, and the EMD engine rebuilding program which resulted in the FrankenBaldwin body style.  The first were renumbered in the 700 series and the second in the 900 series.

Goo-Gone probably left a residue. That is why Bestine is the best - no residue. 

Well, went looking for Bestine today at Hobby Lobby and Michael's with zero luck. The Hobby Lobby people were clueless, and one guy at Michael's remembered they "used to carry it". I wonder if it's been outlawed here in California as one of those "bad" chemicals... 
I suppose it could order it from out of state, but the shipping charges are as much as the product. Or maybe Goo Gone works well enough?

It's hard to find at Michael's because they stock it in the glues section with the rubber cement, and not with the normal artists' solvents like linseed oil, etc. "Bestine" is the thinner product for "Best-Test" rubber cement, in a similar-looking can.

Hmmm.... 91% Isopropyl alcohol warps FUD, but a much stronger solvent like acetone has no effect.   FUD is a weird stuff!

Hi all,

Right, good news. Shapeways today have informed me that all the bugs have been sorted in the models, I won’t bore you with the details, so this means that they will all print. So for those who had orders rejected you can now re order with confidence, and for those who haven’t ordered yet, why not!
