BL-2 BASH info

Ok , the Atlas SD-9 sideframes fit on the Kato C44-9W towers . That gives you trucks with proper sized wheels  . Those bashed trucks fit on the Kato SD-90/43MAC chassis , meshes and runs smooth as glass . That combo is the correct span for the BL-2 bash .

UPDATE when I tested the mech the loco was inverted . The contact strip wipers were holding the gear away from the worm . When , later on , I put it on the rails , there was a gear noise . It appears that the top gear in the gear tower is allowed to get too far into the worm . Fed up with this costly drive that now isn't a snap together and it's done , I decided to not shim the seating of the tower to worm , but to keep it simple and cheaper . I am in the process ( piece of cake ) , filing the OEM Kato SD-90/43MAC sideframes flat so I can lam on Atlas SD-9 sideframes the have been separated , and filed thin on their inner faces . As far as the larger wheels , the side frames can be lowered so no one is the wiser . Easier , Better , Cheaper .

Ricky, just be aware that the weight of the loco will rest on the top cogwheel in each gear tower and not proper on the trucks itself (C44-9 truck gear tower are higher than the SD90 ones). Don't know how long the drive will run without problems.

UPDATE: Next time I will read your whole post before I write an answer. I see you figured it out yourself that the gear tower do not fit properly.

Richie, you can replace the big SD90 wheels on the plastic axle with the wheels from the C44 trucks.

Thanks , if it becomes too obvious once I am about the glue the sideframes on that's good to know . I am really trying not to mess with Kato plastic axles and metal wheels after my horror's with their GS-4 drivers . Once bit don't be shy , shoot it twice ,  let it die as you say good bye .

BL-2 bash update , shell joined today and ground some of the SD-90MAC hassis at the top to seat it in enough seconds ago . Sideframes thinned to accept SD-9 thinned sideframes . Everything is rough , nothing is done in a finished state , but there is nothing to get in the way of a working unit now .

So, what do we call the double BL2???  It seems like it would be a reasonable thing for EMD, if they were so inclined t build a center cabbed unit.  EMD towas very familiar with using two motor generator sets from all the E-units they built.

I think a TL1 would be about right.
Transfer Locomotive first production. If there were was a second type it would be a TL2. The BL2 when it first came out was called a BL1. The only difference between the BL2 and BL1 was the throttle mechanism. The BL1 had air actuation and the BL2 had the new standard electrically actuated throttle. So if there were subsequent changes to this TL1 it would probably be a TL2 or 3 or 4 if they actually made this.
This is merely my way of thinking and could be completely off track.

Thanks for the comments folks . If the original Bash was called a BLT then a BLT it is . Branch Line Transfer makes as much sense as anything else .
