Do,you glue the styrene down first and then masked each color, or do you paint it off layout and then install?  Alcohol wash after install?

For this layout I glued all the curbs to the edges of the sidewalks. Then I glued the sidewalks to the roads that had been sanded and "cracked".  I painted the whole thing many shades of primer grey then masked off the roads to paint the sidewalks Dark Aircraft Grey. Now I glue the whole thing to the layout.

On the old 2x4 layout I glued the roads down first and sprayed them. Painted the sidewalks separate and then glued them down.

Whatever is easier I guess.

Worked on the tower for the busy side of the layout.

The kit is by N scale Architect for the ELHS. I wanted to change out the lower section to concrete to match the towers in my area. Here is the tower that was at the end of my road:

And one in Youngstown:

Nice job Chris.  What's the origin of the boxcar?

This took about 1.5 hours. Just the ballast. Cinders and other stuff was already done, just shaping and brushing ballast. All 3 feet of it :scared:

Haha!  You, too?!  That's about my pace, which is why ballasting is not one of my favorite aspects of model railroading.

Good to see you now have spurs going to those great looking industries. They will look even better w/ freight cars going in & out of them!

Gary,

You're excused.  We've seen the level of superdetail in your trackwork/ballast and know the amount of effort that it takes for you to produce your fantastic result.

Got this corner hill mounted and foamed in. Plus more ballast. All still very wet.
