Feather River Canyon in N-scale

All the rewiring is done and trains are running again. Ran a couple of 50 car trains up and down the new section with no problems. Haven't ran a train into the new staging yard, but I have faith it's OK.
Started building foam scenery sub-base and attached aluminum angle to the wall to hold the foam above the staging yard. Tunnel portals are glue in place, and checked for clearance.​

The work on the fascia will begin with 24" high, 1/8" hardboard.

The grade is 1% and radius starts at 36" and widens to about 40".

BTW, the separation where the two tracks crossover on the prototype is less than what I ended up with. I want to go back and work on that sometime.

What is the actual elevation change where the tracks cross over themselves?   Tehachapi loop is 77', but this looks more like maybe 40' to my eye.

Well, it kind of is a bridge: a ballasted concrete viaduct. 

On the map, the Loop is about 480 m in diameter.  According to Wikipedia, the grade is 1% (compensated), so maybe 0.8% in the Loop?  If the grade were a true 1% throughout, the separation would be about 50 feet, but there is no way it is that large.    I'd wager it is somewhere between 35' and 40'.

Why didn't the just build a simple bridge there?

Just a guess, perhaps the angle that it crosses the track below would have required a bridge that cost more than a tunnel option?

One other guess, perhaps a bridge deck would not have had enough clearance to the track below?

 I know I been told or read the what the separation was, but I can't remember. I went through all my WP books and haven't found it yet. I agree with @GaryHinshaw that it's somewhere around 35 to 40 feet.
