great to see the progress Rodney.  Hopefully I'll make it up to Prairie Rail next year and get to swing by to see it in person again!

The plan is to have operating for Prairie Rail, so I hope to see you operating on it.

Rodney, great progress. I hate ripping things out, but sometimes that’s the best thing to do.
When is Prairie Rail, and am I invited? :D

When I tore out all the track in the Portola area, I also tore out all the wiring. So over the last week, I've been working on wiring Portola.
Got all the drops in for the track that is down, I wired in the mainline drops onto the sub-buss and Friday night ran a train around the whole layout for the first time in months.

You’re going to need a garden tractor and a box blade to ballast that yard.  :scared:

 Thanks Otto
It's in February (dates will be set in September))
If your operating group has invited the KC group to your Ops weekend, you guys should get a invite. The group is pretty strict on who get invitations.

I guess I need a few truckloads of ballast first.

Had a very busy weekend going to 3 different Ops sessions, so didn't get much done. I did however find time to work on putting Kato NW2 chassis under 4 Lifelike SW9's shells. Had to file a few thousands off each side if the frames and grind the area under the cab to make them fit the shells. Installed decoders and shot the shells with some black paint till I find time to do the as delivered, orange and silver WP paint.

Got all the linkages and servos installed on the trim end of Portola yard. Also the servos wired to the Arduino mega.  Still need to get all the frogs wired and tracks labeled on the control panels.

Matrix control panel all wired and installed for the trim end of the yard.

Over the last week, I got the linkages and servos mounted on the classification end of Portola yard.

Once the servos are mounted, I adjust the throw in the Arduino sketch so that the points of the turnout have a little tension on them.
I use .050" or .062" aluminum for my control panels. First is to sand it so the primer has some tooth to stick to. Prime and then track color is sprayed onto the aluminum. I use automotive 1/8" pin-stripping for track. Then spray with Rust-Oleum camo army green.

I made a mistake on the track layout on the panel.

 And corrected

Rodney, ya know, mistakes and patches like that are completely prototypical.

Tower boards often were just taped or painted over as tracks were taken out of service, so even if you patch them up later and it shows it'll still add a little "texture" to the whole thing.

Yes, it's patched and it does have that "fixed" texture

Nice!

I couldn't see it in the photo (in fact, it took me a minute or two to find the change), so... nice work!
