n scale mag / route 66 article

Congrats to Loren Perry on his article this issue on his layout and route 66 "the mother road". Most of us "foamers" are "trains, planes and automobile" guys, if we like one we like the other two as well. Loren you "nailed" this one the roads look great and the desert scenery looks great!!!!!! I am going to use the same trading post in my town of Holbrook, AZ with the wig wam motel/ teepees and swap out traffic cones for the "cozy cone" in "Cars"....HAHA. I thought I saw Spencer Tracy in your cover shot getting off the train I hope he does not have a "bad day at black rock". I was also looking for a spider to come crawling of one of the hills, if so you may have to hire James Arness to terminate "them". Looking fantastic as always and can not wait for part 2. Gordon :D

Although Loren doesn't consider himself to be an artist, it's pretty obvious that his model railroading IS most assuredly art.

Yup... I saw that piece.  His Route 66 is miniature "Americana" at its best.  It's the best thing in that issue.
Very nice work, Loren.

I agree. Loren did absolutely splendid job depicting the flavor of the Rt 66 in its full glory. The scenery looks very realistic and I agree that the backdrop painting is a work of (model railroad) art!  The photography and the article itself aren't too shabby either.

Congratulations Loren!

I've noticed that too.  :(

Also, their annual circulation statement shows a drop in the circulation. It is in low 7000s. IIRC, last year it was in 8000s.  The Railwire is killing their circulation!   Yeah, I know that is not true, but like with all of the printed media, Internet does have an effect on it.

I look forward to reading it.

About the thinness, I noticed a few issues ago that Atlas stopped advertising in it.  That was at least a page right there.

Thanks, gentlemen! Your words make me feel warm and fuzzy all over!!! Part 2 should be even more interesting, and as SuperChief noticed, the little town of Black Rock is a nod to that classic 1950's suspense film "Bad Day at Black Rock". The train seen on the magazine's cover is as close as I could get with my present equipment to replicating "The Streamliner" seen in the amazing opening credit shots of the film (F-7's would have been more accurate.)

I'm doing my best to help keep N-Scale magazine worth buying which is why I save all my stuff for them rather than spread it all over the web. I don't want to live in a world where printed hobby magazines are just a fond memory. To me at least, having to use a complex and fussy machine to be able to read a useful how-to article "doesn't compute". Maybe I'm too old-school and out of touch, but I find staring at a glowing screen to read lengthy articles too uncomfortable for my eyes. Right now, I don't see many magazines gaining readers and that bothers me.

I believe they are using much thinner paper than before. I should check the number of pages.

Besides Loren's article, I found several articles worth reading this time. Even the, ACCKK!!, article on trees.

Actually, I thought this issue was the best one in some time.  Every article was of interest to me, which is seldom the case.  Great work, authors!

You mean it wasn't the making trees article?   :D   For a moment I thought the ghost of Hundman was torturing me, then I remembered it's not all about me.   :(

Not a Hundman tree article; he didn't describehow to make each individual needle or leaf.

I was pretty happy to have my third article published in this issue (Patching Rolling Stock). I am happy to be in with all the other awesome articles, covering the whole span of interests.
