Because it's TRW, I just want to reiterate how much I despite plastic rail joiners.  But, of more concern, are the huge rail gaps you have in these joiners.  I realize that there's supposed to be a gap (the little prong that keeps the rail ends apart), but it doesn't appear that the rails are fully inserted into the rail joiners, leaving some monster gaps.  Compare the farthest rail (the smallest gap) to the closest rail and the third rail back, for example.  Ew.

Oh, and you also have a hump at the joint nearest the camera.  Are the replacement ties under the rail joiners causing this?

They do suck, but I hadn't thought of a good alternative where I needed insulation.

The gaps are a bit wide in some places, but I haven't seen any operational problems with them. Same thing with the hump, even though I think I'm gonna go sand down the joiners a bit since it's ugly!

A narrow dremel slice, insert a sliver of styrene to keep the gap from closing, file to shape, weather to taste.  I'd show you a picture of a good one, but you can't see where it is.

So, big news... got the last two Tortoises installed and wired into JMRI today.

I still need to do frogs, but it means that now, everything (well, that's dispatcher controlled) successfully locks up and can be centrally controlled.

Next up: the hand throws.

It's amazing what even just a base coat of foliage can do for a layout.  Looks good!

I concur, and should take it to heart for my own work once there is more progress on getting track down. I have way too much pink-foam prairie at the moment. But Ed also demonstrated earlier that even just a coat of "paint rejects table brown" helps enormously.

Looks like a good start Ed. I like the color/texture of the leaf litter and grass, What materials are you using for both?

Looks really good! and good eye, many grasses stay pretty green even in -30 under 2 feet of snow... 

and you've managed to maintain a muted look, at least to my eyes...

Yeah, I discussed the subject of greenery in winter with Ed last year.  On my commute last winter, I began to take note at how much is still green in the dead of winter here in the Delmarva area.  I'm glad to see Ed's following photo photos.
