My three DWP bulkhead cars arrived in sunny south Florida today. As recommended, I emailed PS directly and after 3-4 emails, my cars were ordered and shipped. That was a week ago Tuesday. So 8 days to Florida. Awesome cars. The green on the DWP ends is very "minty", but a little weathering will take care of the brightness. I'm sure it's correct for a new car. Beautiful models with thin ladders and seperate grab irons. One is going to be converted to an IHB car for hauling steel plates, but for the other two, are any covered lumber loads available for this size?

I hadn't heard that Prairie Shadows had an ebay store but I ran across it. Here is a page that shows the bulkheads...shipping to the US isn't cheap but it's another way to get 'em!

Try getting the same thing shipped to Canada from the US- $11 is a good price, no markup there.

Yes but it does add to the overall cost of ownership. We are spoiled with ~$3 1st Class and ~$5 priority USPS delivery.

Parcel rates from Canada to Canada start at about $9, and they are about to get even more expensive.

Shipping to the States is madness.  For us to ship one HO car via Canada Post costs about $16.

I will concur that $9 is the very minimum to get something shipped to Canada via USPS.  (from TX, that is)   And you have to catch them on a slow day to get that rate.   :facepalm:

I got together with two other modelers to order our Prairie Shadows cars, so shipping is a more reasonable $3.67 each.   8)   Of course, we still don't have them yet...waiting for our number to be called so we can confirm our order and pay.   :trollface:

What's the current status on these cars?  Would they be appropriate for 2005-2012 in the US PNW?

They look great and I need to order some of those AOK hoppers anyway...

Search rrpicturearchives.net under "bulkhead flat" in the rolling stock section for the respective reporting marks and number series.  Datewise I know you're fine, at least on the early side.  Location wise, dunno.

Note (and I believe what I'm saying is correct, but not 100% sure) that starting about 1990, a lot of these cars were fitted with "centerbeams"....what look to be paired posts (all unconnected...just posts sticking up from the center...not top beam like on a traditional centerbeam car) running the length down the center of the car.

I picked up mine directly from Jeff when we were in Springfield.  They are nicely done.  But I'm pretty sure that all of the prototypes were out of revenue service by 2000.

I'm guessing these cars (example below) - all ex DWP or BCR on the WC in 2006 and later must be slightly different or newer cars (with pulpwood racks added)?

The first car is slightly different (but not necessarily newer) being one built by RailWest Manufacturing (basically BCOL Squamish shops).

The second car is exactly the Hawker-Siddeley version represented by the model. This WC series is a massive hodge-podge of cars from different former CN (+ family (DWC, BCOL, etc)) series, and features several builders and subtle variations of spotting details.

RRpicturearchives is an unbelievable source, I would gladly pay to use the site or donate $$$ to them but I am not sure what the story is...

I would pay big money to (a) allow them a server upgrade and (b) be granted a "Plus" membership where I could essentially start building a local sync'ed copy of major areas of interest on a local store.  (I'm already basically doing that *manually*, and it would save me tons of time)

I stopped using rrpicturearchives a few years ago because a) its search capabilities are almost non-existent -- you often have to navigate through a few hundred pages of thumbnails by hand, and b) when you finally find something that matches your criteria, it is often completely useless, e.g.: (but good luck even opening the links now)

:RUEffinKiddingMe:   I much prefer railcarphotos, which has a very useful search form and some decent standards for their holdings.  The collection is much smaller, but still extensive enough to be useful.  Time spent on the latter site is rarely wasted, time spent on the former often is.

Added: but it is a good source of container and trailer photos, which railcarphotos does not tag.
