Is this model correct for the Algoma Central cars?  I am seeing Algoma Central gondolas in pictures at Dawson Creek.

Tim

The AC cars were NSC built, but I'd say it's close if not bang on.

Tim,

The AC car in the photo referenced previously by lock4244 has hat braces tapered at the lower end rather than Z-bar as on the Prairie Shadows model.  However, check John Riddell's "Canadian Railways Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Cars, Volume 1: Ontario and East", as I believe the AC had some 52'-6" cars with the Z-bar braces as well.

In my era, the AC's longest gondolas were 48'-6", so the PS cars won't work for me as visiting AC cars.

Cheers,

Holy cow I love the LV models!  Time to head for my LV Color Guide and see how close these are to the Bethlehem-built protos...

They are "reasonably close"... 52'6", Fish belly, 14 panel, full length rib (I think they may be six inches too long) riveted sides... it all depends how precise you require. I really like the LV scheme.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Indeed closer than anything else out there.  Only tweak I would need to make is removing the yellow/black wheel inspection thing (my layout era is '75).

Otherwise there are several other Valley schemes that would be appropriate for future releases!

Cheers,

AC did *not* have 52' cars with Z-bar bracing as in the model. The AC cars were built later with the pressed steel ribs as noted above.

As an added wrinkle, the AC cars are also taller (4' vs. 3'6" inside height) but the signature rib spacing makes this model still closer to the AC profile than anything else. (Most American gondola models have a different rib/panel count which throws off the positioning of the Algoma Central lettering.)

Thanks Chris - you have confirmed what I suspected, that the AC gondolas were taller in comparison to the PGE/BCR cars.

So who state-side is carrying these cars?  I'm up for some of the Canadian models but am totally confused as to when/where they'll be for sale to me, the common street non-prepay customer.  When O look up the CP cars on the Prairie Shadows website it lists them as "Out of Stock", implying they've been in stock and are no longer.  Twould be a shame if I missed them.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Jeff is still filling pre-orders. If you email him, I'm sure you can get some! They are also available at Credit Valley and PWRS.

At this point I'd assume there won't be any US retailers, at least not discount ones.  From what I heard, there's not much margin on these cars.

I had a couple back and forths with PS to try and get my cars paid for and was given to the option to add to my pre-order.

As previously posted, I'd contact PS or the two Canadian retailers if you really want these cars.

Gondola question:  Since the trucks along with the cars are all-new tooling, would anyone happen to know what prototype the trucks are based on?
