I just picked up one of the new Bachmann 3 dome tank cars. well new to me anyway :)

I think this is a nice looking model. And was wondering if anyone had cut off the end domes to make a more common single dome car.

I'm also thinking of using the domes on either the Micro-Train or Intermountain tank.

You do know Bachmann does make a single dome car?

I agree they are pretty nice.

Agreed, they are  both very nice cars. Crisp detail, amazing letterring. And replacing their wheels with BLMA or Fox Valleys makes them even better; I find this to be true especially on tank cars where the wheel threads are very visible from above.
You got to give B-mann credit for trying. Here they went body mount (but with their huge coupler) and a shallow flange metal wheel (but a fat thread). Still the wheels at least are an easy fix...yet to figure out the right couple replacement.
I also wish we could get multiple numbers in the more common black or silver schemes...

Use AccuMates, as they are a drop-in replacement and you reduce the coupler knuckle size by 20%.  There is no easy solution to swap in MTL couplers.

And yes, both tanks are nice models.  Even more so after swapping out the wheels and couplers.

Thanks Bryan,
Not crazy about Acumates, buy M/T would be difficult. Will give it a try and see.
The narrow thread wheels are a must. Sure wish Bachmann would do the 10K cars in some common black runner packs and multiple numbers....

MicroScale makes (made?) two sets of tank car decals, black and white, that included initials and numbers for many of the common leasing companies.  You might be able to renumber the cars using those.  The black cars would be easy to do, but matching the silver might require scraping the old number off very carefully.
