Man, just put a dual mode decoder in it from the factory like Bachmann does. Seriously, if Bachmann can put a DCC decoder in a 44 Tonner with directional lights, why can't MTL on an engine nearly twice its size?

And Bachmann DCC decoders are HUGE!

Anyway, cheers for CR being first on the list. I like to think that was a wink and a not to Dave, Ed and I.

It will do for CR modelers and those in need of a version to strip.  :D

That MT car in a blender video is priceless! Actually, I guess there was a price. :scared:

Purple
Happy Birthday cars became the rare ones because of that video...

Certainly
if manufacturers choose not to 'take the pulse' of consumers that is an option.  Couple of hand picked focus groups at a NMRA convention and we get a HO SDP45.  Try that at an Nscale collectors meet and the result might be something obcure like DS643 or a DRS616.  While begging for a true SP SW1500 (with proper DCC lighting, shell details, and trucks) I hereby promise to buy three in mid 1980s appropriate paint.  Perhaps I should start warming up for that candlelight vigil right about now?

When the 'My Little Pony' series SW1500 comes along, it could be a 'must have'...

Well, brony con is in town this weekend...

And those mofos wouldn't give a crap about DCC compatibility or directional lighting. I guess I couldn't blame mtl for chasing that easy money.

Anyone else eagerly awaiting the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic scheme?

Anyone?

No?

Oh well, more for me.

Seriously... Just DCC the bastard. Do you really want another FT fiasco?

My excitement about this model is being counter-balanced by the potential that it still might not be DCC ready. And it's a shame, because I need a LOT of these. But, this is 2013. Having a newly-designed locomotive showing up without plug-and-play would be like the next BMW M-series requiring a hand-crank to start the engine...

Definatly want DCC.  From the photos I'm seeing it looks like they all have plain bearings which is fine.  But, by the time they became PC and definately CR I though they had been changed to roller bearings.  Just curious on this.

Anticipating
a bloodbath at announcment and fistfights at train shows once they are released.  Planning delivery of mine by armoured truck with police protection on hand the moment I release the factory air.  Undisclosed security updates are already underway so I won't have a problem trying to get it done at the last minute...

Today I did the thing that's always been recommended and emailed MTL directly with my concerns about DCC, lighting and the fact that they're only doing a single road number.

If anyone else cares, I'd recommend doing the same thing (although finding an email address on their site isn't easy).

And
putting that email address information in a forum post is so difficult...

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

If that happens, then there's hope for the New Orleans Public Belt. They had 3 or 4 SW1500s... memory is fading... can't recall...

Hmm... I hope Kiz'll
forget the $100 he
loaned me...

I heard back from MTL today with quite encouraging news:
1. They're talking with Digitrax, so it sounds like it's going to happen in some way or another. That's really good, and exactly what I wanted to hear.
2. Even though the initial material was only including single road numbers, multiples are actually planned. This is good news for my layout, bad news for my wallet.

So, it's a good news day.
