Atlas has the summer catalog covering announcements for 3rd quarter 2013.  A ton of stuff: RS-1, 11G tanks, coil cars, pulpwood cars, double-sheathed boxcars, 1932 ARA, Evans double-plug, and more.  Also included is the fourth release of the PS-1, 8-foot door, late 50s/60s schemes.  B&M New Image, CNW brown, SLSF "Ship it", GTW maple leaf, N&W no herald, Southern "serves the south", and US Army.  The PDF of the catalog also has been posted on the website.

I am tentatively excited about the Bachmann USRA 55 tonner. This is a never before done model in N.

VGN had some twins that seem to be based on this design.

The tooling might be good, but the artwork looks suspect.  That Pennsy car can't be correct, can it?

Artwork is likely suspect, like most Bmann releases. But if the tooling is good, this means decals and paint for VGN (if I can find the VGN class that resembles it).

Nice article on the USRA 55 tonner here: http://www.trainlife.com/magazines/pages/441/32199/may-1995-page-5

For what its worth...
Noticed in the summer Atlas catalog that the MSRP for code 55 turnouts hasn't changed, although it has the disclaimer that prices are subject to change without notice. None of the other pages have this.

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Atlas needs to get off the stick and reduce the size of their bloated PDF files. It's one thing to show high-res photos, but quite another to have embedded vector graphics that do nothing to inform the reader.

Cheers!

Not true.  Embedded vector images allow you to zoom in and read all the writing on the freight cars.  Something that always gets asked about on the smaller raster images.

Don't mess with a good thing.

I have to disagree and say yes, it's true, which IMO makes them awkward - especially when downloading to a hand held device - subjecting the user to unnecessary bandwidth. Most of the images are nothing more than basic line drawings, and the photos from the same pages get fuzzy when zoomed. Photos are OK, albeit too low of a resolution, while the line drawings are just fancy vapor and fluff and woefully inefficient. The drawings aren't what you're buying anyway.

Cheers!

Yes, N&W as delivered. I think I gotta get a couple. Gonna check class photos against the artwork this weekend. That Frisco car looks like another one I gotta have.

Their HO announcement was the SDP45 in SP, GN and Erie variations.

Now, if we could get the SDP45 in N I would be happy.  Need those GN units for pool trains.

I'm glad I had VERY LOW expectations of these announcements!

But really, there is a lot of interesting stuff in the pipeline already....

Ditto. I'm all for the larger files with raster images, even on my mobile device.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1
