Any Kodachrome fans out there

I dont see many if any people mention Kodachrome interests out there and was just curious if there are other that share fascination with SPSF. If you have websites, Fansites please post them I'd really like to check em out.

I was a fan back in the day.  One of my first n-scale locomotives was a Con-Cor SF Kodachrome SD40-2.   Now I model a different era and no longer have that loco...there were a couple of C30-7's I believe that survived into my era (late 90's/early oughts) but I'm not really one to model the unusual.   I do have thoughts of modeling the mid/late 80's timeframe though so, maybe eventually.

I remember being very excited when I would see one come through on the BN line near my house...they were pretty rare so it was a treat.

While it is nowhere near my time frame I am a big fan.  In the early 90's I had a professionally customed painted GP35 that I ordered from some mail order place found in Model Railroader.  Back then I modeled a more modern time frame and it fit.  Several years ago I sold the shell on EBay and made a decent return on it.  I do keep an eye on the recent SD45 & C30-7 releases and they are pretty tempting.

I'm sort of neutral on the paint scheme itself - it was only "nice" right out of the paint booth. It got dirty rather quickly, then factor in SP's then-recent policy of shutting down their wash racks. But even Santa Fe couldn't keep 'em clean.

Anyway, the K-scheme just evokes bad memories. I worked for SP (corporate side) as the deal was being put together, and the whole mess reeked of dueling lawyers and funny-money leveraged-buyout shenanigans typical of the '80s, which, in the end, was the last nail in the coffin for SP. SP survived for decades solely because it owned a boatload of land in California - second only to the U.S. gov't. - which they used as an ATM of sorts to underwrite operating losses. The merger of the holding companies was executed in such a way that basically left Santa Fe in control of the real estate assets and the railroad portions of SP flapping in the breeze with no more piggy bank to run it. It was sort of a paraphrase of Penn Central, but in the case of SPSF you had UP's lawyers furiously working in the background to shut it down.

I'm a fan of the Kodachromes.  MY first major California railfanning was when these were still seen running around.  I've got footage of them in Franklin Canyon, and I just loved them.

I don't model it in N, but I had always wanted to do ATSF in HO when I was younger, so I've got a handful of Atlas U33/36s in Kodachrome, and the typical warbonnet, and an SD40-2 as well.

I'm not a fan, but for any who are: I have a couple Atlas GP9 and SD9 Kodachrome shells I'd be happy to swap for C&NW, UP or undec shells.

I'll say that I like it: I don't have any locos painted in it, but I like it.

I wouldn't mind someday getting an SD45 in the SP version, just to have around for visiting power on a run-through freight.

Like so many others, I was a fan but don't model that era so I only have one loco painted in it. I loved the paint scheme (I lived in So Cal at the time and saw them everywhere) and was VERY disappointed when the merger wasn't allowed to go through (west coast railroading would be very different today if it was allowed), hence the SPSF was known as Shouldn't Paint So Fast. Yes, the paint got dirty quickly but alot of that was SP not wanting to spend ANY money on anything, let alone washing their engines (What does the SP call a wash rack? A rainstorm LOL). If only it had gone through...

Back in high school I wanted to model it, then came USMC, college, marriage, house, kids...
By the time I got back into MRR it was long gone, though I do have a U23B in the SF half, and I found at a train show a couple years ago three MDC special run boxcars in the full regalia! (SPSF's!)
I've got a friend who's a SP fan and another who's a SF fan, and they both twitch when I run them at are get-togethers!

Hmmmm... I though that the Milwaukee was the only road that had trouble spending money. I'm not sure about the boxcars, as they tend to draw a little to much attention to the middle of the train, but I think it would be nice to have one of the U23Bs. I have two MILW U23Bs, and they are so beautiful: Atlas did an exquisite job with those models.

I primarily model SP in the 1990s so I like a dirty Kodachrome mixed in with a clean speed letter and filthy standard SP block. I have about half of the Kodachrome roster I'd like. Here's what I have and plan on building:
