Jimmo:  "interest in the COE":  I finally found a PICTURE of one of the things!  Searching on "IH Loadstar" gave pages of conventionals.  Even including a date didn't help.  A Google search on "IH 1965 Loadstar COE" found a handful - in pages of conventionals.  There doesn't seem to be much interest in the real ones either...

However, having a picture, it looks like shortening the fenders on mine will be fairly easy, even with the beds glued on.  So, I'll try that one of these days.  Probably won't post new pictures, though, as it really will be a minor change.

Type Loadstar CO-1600 or something along those lines.

Why not post a pic with the bobbed fenders along with the original pic? If for nothing more than a before/after reference.

You might be surprised at how trimming those fenders really helps this poor little model look more like what it's supposed to. The only domestic Loadstars I've seen the extended fenders on were firetrucks. They kind of get in the way of most truck bodies.

I've trimmed them, but pictures will have to wait for this weekend.  Trimming wasn't as hard as I feared, even with the bodies in place, but did leave the underside of the cab looking a little open.  I'll probably pry the cab floors out, they're glued in with Elmer's, and glue a block of plastic in there as a viewblock.  I think there should be a engine and transmission in there...  Then the paint needs a little touchup.

Wazzou:  Thank you.  I'll make a note of that, but doubt I'll need any more pictures.  Are these models even made today?  The ones I have are the first I've seen since the early 70s, and they're used.

You know as well as I do that just because a model is no longer made does not automatically qualify it for the "priceless" category. If that were the case, we wouldn't alter anything we buy for fear that one day it might be worth something more than what we just bought it for. Think about all the model railroad equipment you've purchased over the years and how you've devalued most of it by weathering or adding detail.

Where do you draw the line? In the case of these rare(?) Roskopf Internationals, I actually find these pretty often on ebay, usually being sold in a lot with other models nobody cares much about. There are priceless collectibles and there are just old, badly done models.

Now if you ever find one in mint condition, still in it's original packaging, preferably never opened...

These wouldn't have been "priceless collectibles" by anyone's standards, as they were obviously used, had the wheels painted by a previous owner, and had to be washed before I started work on them.

Considering what I've done to more valuable items, these didn't worry me a bit!

No guesses on my tractor and trailer?  I'd have thought someone would have made one by now...

Just to make sure that there are no misunderstanding, my "priceless" commend was tongue-in-cheek.

As far as the other question goes, I don't know the origin of that yellow trailer but taking a wild stab at the tractor, it might be made from one of those 1:144 scale diecast models of a pickup truck (as it looks a bit small for a tractor).

Taking another stab at your question about European truck's exhaust, its been decades since I was in Europe but I don't recall any tractors having tall US-style stacks.  I think the exhaust pipe was routed under the frame and ended with a 90 degree bend before the rear wheels.

Jimmo, you need to spend more time on ebay.If it was made last month it is now rare and priceless. :D
