Ideas for N Scale Scene

Well, I know you keep saying your not a modeler, but your work on the Slocan bridge from this week's WU:



(to cite one of 100 examples I could pick from your work) disqualifies you from claiming this non-attribute any more.     Granted it may not your first interest, and I'd happily concede that you're not a rivet counter, nor maybe even a "serious" modeler, but modeling is in your considerable toolbox, by almost anyone's definition.  I suspect PGE's comment was tongue in cheek.

I was being entirely facetious when I said that  . I really only was looking for a comment to post relevant to the thread, just so I could make a smart remark about you having a CPR red barn show up on your layout.

I do agree, though, that your bridge engineering definitely qualifies as serious modelling.

Try going to a train show with a $50 limit. Subtract parking and admission, that leaves you with $35 to play with.

Yeah, $35 is my basic train show budget, even when I don't have parking or admission. It does leave me with the decision on whether I want to eat lunch or have money for another MT reefer.

Any suggestion I have would involve two bridges.  I'm using several of the BLMA 150 footers for three modular LDE's depicting Weber Canyon between Ogden and Echo Utah, which include two spectacular scenes, one at Taggarts, the other at Devils Slide, each with two bridges on the U.P.'s double tracked, left-hand running mainline.  The last LDE is the double tunnel just before Taggarts, but that one is down the road a bit on my construction schedule.

Mods to the bridges include removing the lacy, upper bracing on the ends and replacing them with solid, riveted plates (with etched dates on the uphill bridges).  My time period demands wooden walkways, so the BLMA expanded metal ones come off.  The angled end-gussets/plates on the BLMA model get replaced by rectangular ones...and that's about it.  They won't be exact copies of what's in Weber Canyon, but pretty close after the mods are made.

In my time period, all bridges in Weber Canyon were painted black, but today they are silver with the Devils Slide bridges being silver and the uphill bridge being half silver/half green.
