Atlas Winter Catalog and First S-2 Road Names.

I love the CPR Script image, but out of my era. I've no use for one in my era, but a CP in the multimark would be impossible to resist, since ~1978 is a secondary era of interest.

That EL one is tempting. I've an interest there two, and one would go nicely with my tiny fleet (one each RS-3, GP35, U25B).

Interesting choice of road numbers for the Canadian Pacific units; 7013 and 7061 were both Alco built units, from 1943 and 1947 respectively. 7091 was, however, one of the Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) built under licence units and had, so I am told, very minor differences to the Alco units. Alco built units 7010 - 7064 in five batches between 1943 and 47. I might have stuck to those road numbers, were it me but I am not complaining whatsoever; I am thankful we CPR modelers get a three pack of S switchers !

Looks like the louvers are a little different on the 7091 vs the Atlas model, and the front number board.

Also would seem that the 7091 was still in the Script in 1977, so close enough to 1978 to make it temptation

For those of you who would like some Schlitz to arrive on your line, consider the Dairy Shippers Despatch (DSDX) 40 foot plug door.  While not an exact match to the prototype, with a new running board and steps these will be a very acceptable close enough for me. They were in leased service to Schlitz on the Beer Line from the early 1960s through early 1970s. Thanks Atlas, and kudos to Mike Skibbe who worked with them on things like font, lettering, and paint color.

Interesting. No UP? With 54, they had one of the larger fleets of S-2s. It sort of appears Atlas is avoiding overlapping the Bachmann S-4 schemes. While they're offering Santa Fe, too, paint schemes are decades apart. Overall, the Atlas schemes are nice.

But sign me up for a Santa Fe S-2. Evokes memories of sitting on the benches at San Berdoo watching two or three of these burble up and down the yard tracks shuffling stuff around.

But the Bachmann UP S-4 will wear Dependable Transportation ............. past my era . Both S-2 & S-4 when in the 50's had Road of the Streamliners ( celebrating passenger service ) on the engineer side , and Serves all the West ( celebrating freight service ) on the co-pilot side ( the opposite of aircraft ) . So if Atlas wanted to they , without competition or toe stepping could have done the 50's scheme S-4 , and Bachmann the 60's scheme S-4 . No biggie to me , as I know Atlas is in the business to make money , and that equates to UP will be made eventually . UP schemes abound but era rules the wallet .

I didn't expect Milwaukee Road in the first run but hope that one of their 23 S-2's makes it in the second run.  Atlas has always been very good about offering Milwaukee Road locos.

From a business standpoint, you don't release all of your big names in one batch.  You need a big draw with every release to help move the stock.  A lot of big roadnames are in this initial release to keep most folks happy.

And the roadnames are spread across two continents, as opposed to say bringing out 4 roadnames and having them all from roads on one side of the country.

I don't think they were ever for sale. I bugged both Paul and Cory about it and they said something about getting things straight in China.

What cars did those come with?  And does this mean you have extra 50 ton trucks from those cars?  I'm going to need 20 sets.

Paul from Atlas stated that parts for the new PS-1 cars will eventually be available for purchase.
