There was an article in Bloomberg today about BNSF indicating they expect to increase oil tanker traffic by 40% this year to move oil from North Dakota.  CN and CP are doing the same thing, so modern modellers can go crazy with unit tanker trains!  These decals will be really helpful for modern tankers.

Check out the videos section at bnsf.com - they have some videos posted about all the capital improvements they are doing to support the ND crude transport.

Supposedly by 2017 the US will be the largest oil producer in the world thanks to these new fields and the railroads will be a major part of it....

One of the companies that the loading facilities for these is a client. MOdeling one would be a challenge, as they take up lots of space but would be dramatic. The one that I'm familiar with includes two huge loops for the trains. Very dramatic. The laoding racks are covered, so  modeling could be easy, just two structures with tracks going in and out, and lots of storage tanks. It will mean a lot of money for the railroads, as it would take decades for pipelines to be built to the coasts, if possible. These trains will be on for decades.

Now if only we had a proper acid tankcar to use them on. Sulfuric acid is one of the most common industrial chemicals and yet we still don't have a model to haul it...

Well, that's another story!

I plan to use the spreadsheets to modernize a bunch of tank cars.   Unless someone comes by with a microscope
it shouldn't be a problem.
