Some progress on vegetation.  The sage-coloured foam from Timberline Scenery is a good match.

is this what you're using Scott?  I assume the coarse texture?

Yes, that is it.  I used the fine texture variant.  I bought some of their small bush material too and found it to be just chunks of spongy material and not at all what I wanted, so I use bits of Supertrees as my bush armature, and glue on the sage foliage.

I was away for the week train watching in Berlin (well, some work too...) and this let the cement dry thoroughly.  I mixed up a brown-gray color but it looks more gray now that it is on the layout. I'll see how it looks but may do a second coat.

I had a package of detail parts arrive for the MOW scene. Lots of things yet to do but it is starting to look finished now with the river.

it's looking brilliant, and reminds me fondly of my trips up there to railfan! I actually have a photo from Lytton hanging on my kitchen wall. (the full sized version of my profile pic)

Thanks!

I really like that bridge in Lytton, it is so accessible and a great scene.

OK, it was too gray.

After some agonizing over paint chips, I came up with the perfect muddy brown (which is called "Dark Legacy Gold").  I repainted and then textured with thick gloss medium and then the waves were highlighted with zinc white liquid paint.  A little more work is needed but it looks about right to me based on photos I took of the scene at the end of May.

Incredible.  The river level view of the snow shield in the background is stunning.  Need to see that same shot with the river now complete.

Thanks!  I'll have to get out the SLR and get some proper shots.  These are just from my cell and it is showing it's age.

I fooled a bit in GIMP last night and cleaned up the image to what I hope it will look like when finished.

That river looks great. And you did without any fancy ”water products”. Just ordinary paint and likwise. Well Done.  8)

I have not made much progress other than to get a few modelling projects off my workbench and onto the layout.  The grain train is about half weathered and "modernized".  I received a new cell phone for Christmas so I took the opportunity to experiment with video and put this compilation together.  Some of the scenes need finishing work and I need better audio editing software!

Happy New Year everyone!

Excellent!  Very nice video quality.  I especially liked the zoom shot of the box car train crawling over the bridge.

Thanks!  It is a Samsung A5 and has native HD video capture.  I prefer this over my SLR as I can get the phone into many track side locations.  I also used strong supplemental lighting, which seemed to improve the overall sharpness of the video imagery.

Awesome video Scott! What software do you use for editing your videos?

Looks great! I especially like the scene around 1:00.

But you gotta find a way of making the water move as well!  :D
