Wow.  I'm finally catching up with your progress here.  The paint really seals the deal on this magnificent structure.  When you have the scenery in place and a sky backdrop for photos, this shot could easily pass as real. Well done!

The backdrop issue won't be trivial.  My existing backdrop is 16" tall and you can see is completely inadequate for views like that photo.  I'm not sure how high to make it, especially since the roof keeps showing up in many of the photos!  This particular view will be further challenged given that it is directed towards the end of the peninsula, so I will have minimal backdrop there.  I may need to learn how to use photoshop...

Photoshop'ing in a sky for dramatic photos would be your best option I think.  It would be challenging to develop a backdrop that curved up and over since the scene is located in the corner of the room.  Regardless, this is a great venue and angle for action photos.

I'll have to work on trying that.  I do like that view, even though it is very unusual for the site.

Next step is getting the walkways bent and the painted, and then installing the railing.  The latter is going to test my nerves and hands.  No coffee this weekend!

Don't forget the potential to just use something like a curtain or a sheet as a background.

Or, just get a few sheets of foamcore, paint them the right color, and position them in "hard to photoshop" areas behind the photo (ie, behind the lattice work supports).

I was thinking about something like that.  It is a good idea for photography, and I can remove it when operating or wanting to view from the other side.

I'm back in business.  Had to go during the day to get CA from my LHS....  They don't have evening hours and work had come to a standstill.

I have a sheet of foam core painted one side with sky+clouds and the other with sky+generic mountains which (too) frequently appears in photos.  Normally as backdrop to a swing gate with the slocan river bridge on it.

I think that would do the trick.  This is the only photo I can find of that view, but it clearly is just a forested mountain side so it would not be difficult to do.



There is that awkward CPR bridge I'll need to deal with

I was thinking of a portable backdrop with the sky colour (usually grey...) or maybe a green screen for photo-shopping.  You don't want a permanent one that will block other cool - and more traditional - viewing angles!

Mounted the etched walkways and installed and ballasted the track.  The ballast is still a bit rough but I will clean it up, install the guard rails and weather all of it.

It has been a while since I have done much with this project.  Work and family, lots of travelling, a bit of a modelling funk, all conspired to keep this on the back burner.

I got back in the groove today and worked on the rocks on the west side of the river.  This is a near-shear wall of rock that was blasted into for the bridge.  I'm pretty happy with the results even though I still have a few rough spots to smooth.





Some progress, the other bank will go faster with less exposed rock.

Thanks, I'm enjoying getting back into it.  I put down some stains on the rocks, now it looks more like something.  The plaster seems to soak up the stain differently, depending on the batch.  It must be a density or residual water content issue.   I think the rusts are a bit much in a few spots, but I'll tone it down with more black.  That section in the middle of the slope where foam is exposed will be a talus slope and some trees, but that comes later.
