When you bought the track I seriously thought about buying the exact same and building this layout. Afterall it is easy to follow a blueprint. But it would be strange seeing exactly where your version is better. That, plus I have a stack of layouts gathering dust...

Too bad you changed your mind. I'd like to have seen what choices you'd have made for buildings and how you'd arrange them. No guarantees that my version is better!

Excellent!  This nearly makes me re-think my opinion of small layouts (nearly).  I can see only one problem...you need to back up to 3' before taking the next batch of photos...

Judging by what I read on David's website about his experience with MR Magazine, somehow I don't think this will ever even be considered.

I wouldn't rule it out as a possibility, but they'd have to approach me (as was the case for GMR) and not t'other way 'round. Anyway, I could imagine N Scale or NSR being much more interested.

But there's a lot of miles left for me to cover before any of this becomes a possibility.

Hi, I have just joined in order to ask if you intend to model the pacific avenue apartments as dumbell apartments as in the reference picture?
Also, will you be using the Imagine That El kits?
I must say I find the 'prevailing boring' vernacular is a real positive that adds realism and sets the scene.
I will be following with great interest.

Was wondering if you have any problems with the #5 turnouts? Last time I bought some I remember the frog flange ways being tight.

I think creating a similar layout could prove to be very interesting.  I think the magic is in the trackplan.  Dave incorporated a lot of operating potential in it, not too mention interesting viewing/photography angles. 

Heck you could even incorporate a couple of the features that he wanted to but didn't like the coal trestle.
