D&RGW boxcar question

The only pictures of a D&RGW 641xx series car I can find is for a waffle side boxcar.  However, all of those pictures are between 64100 and 64150, while this one is 64188.


So, my questions are:
Did the D&RGW own a boxcar numbered 64188?
Did it look like this model, at least in general terms, meaning sliding door, flat roof, smooth sides, etc.
If "no" to either of those questions, did the D&RGW ever own cars similar to this?
If so, what numbers and paint schemes?

I looked through three online photo sites and couldn't find a matching number, or a similar car, but those aren't complete.

Your photo is of an Evans/USRE boxcar, which was built only for the Penn Central and Western Pacific in 1971.  Conrail inherited the PC cars; Union Pacific inherited the WP cars but they never were repainted into UP colors; and Canadian National acquired the surviving CR cars at the CSX/NS acquisition of CR.

The Rio Grande scheme in your photo is not prototypical.  I do not know if there was an actual D&RGW 64188.  But if there was, it would be on a different prototype.

Thank you!  If there never was a 64188 I would keep the car, as my railroad is freelanced, and the RG could have had such a car in my world.  However, at least for now, it will be retired.

Update:
I found this site from the Rio Grande Modeling & Historical Society

which answered the remaining questions.  No, the RG never had a car numbered 64188, and the group 64150-64199 was unused.  So, for a freelancer, this car can be used as a "might have been" without conflicting with a real car series. As far as I know it's the only car available in this paint scheme, which seems to have been rare.

Here is the result of minimal upgrading.  Other than the MT couplers, nothing was purchased for this project.

The changes were:

Paint the ends black.  Very simple, mask the sides and spray away.
Replace the "New" date.  It was printed much lighter than the rest of the data and just didn't look right. 
Add a "Blt" date.  Both came from custom decals bought years ago for my modern narrow gauge.
Replace the modern consolidated stencils with the early variety.  That used leftover MS data decals.
Add the "Plate C" stencil, also from MS.  I have a lifetime supply of the MS data because, for many years, they were the only source for ACI labels.
Add end initials and numbers.  These came from CDS narrow gauge dry transfers, bought for the dimensional data, which went on old cars for my narrow gauge.
Grunge up the wheels a little.

A very simple project that makes a toy-quality car usable, at least for a non-D&RGW modeler.

Again, thank you for the information, and if I ever find an undecorated model, I might do the WP.
