This was a grab shot staged in my kitchen with the reflector/lamp clipped to the ball on top of our stainless paper towel holder.
So, in that sense, I am happy with the photo.   :D
I have one hood reflector thus bought one bulb to test in it at this point.
The color rendition is pretty spot on and the shadow in this picture is reminiscent of a boxcar photographed against a hillside with the sun behind the camera.   ;)

Bryan,

Pretty good for a "grab shot".  Amazing what a single lamp will do in close-up photography isn't it?

Contrary to what many believe, photography is an art, which uses science and technology to achieve the photographer's artistic vision.  I'm going to be interested to see what you come up with in your future photographs which are not "grab shots"!  :D

Bryan,

You are learning a hard lesson of photography: It isn't about the equipment, it's about the light! If you wish to avoid shadows, the silver reflector from anywhere isn't good, as it is very close to being a point source, which gives harsh shadows. You need diffused light to rid yourself of harsh shadows. Bounce the light off a big piece of white fomecore, and watch the shadows go away.

OK Bill.  Will do on the bounced light.
Like I described to Robert, I was just testing the light source for color rendition.
The way I set it up was just as I said... in the kitchen with the paper towel holder steadying the lamp, just after removing the bulb from the Home Depot packaging upon returning home.
I think what I'd like to do is to build a sturdy stand from PVC to support a couple of the lamps and a diffuser of some sort.
