I would have paid $250 for the spare parts.    I watch a Key ATSF tender sell for $150 a year ago. I would think the Kato GS4s that are in parts on ebay right now go for around 60-80. Thanks for sharing Adam.

My son bought a couple of black, skirted GS-2's a few months ago made by LIK Enterprises Inc., and imported by MORE.  Frankly, I'd never heard of either company, but these are fabulously detailed and excellent running engines.  Evidently when MORE went belly-up, they had an inventory of these which eventually got purchased by Brass Trains, who offered them at approximately half price. I haven't done anything to these yet other than adjust their gauge, test run 'em and take photos of 'em on U.P. territory.

Eventually, when I get some other projects done like my CA-1 cabooses and an Athearn Big Boy super detailing project, I'll add TSU sound decoders to 'em (the tenders are innovatively slotted for a nice sized speaker & enclosure), then paint the tires and wheel faces, add crews, paint the awnings and weather them up a bit.

Thought all you foamers would like to see a couple of photos of these, which I think are real prizes!

Dang Bob, that's one good lookin' mail train! What could have happened had the Central Pacific been allowed to continue building east, say to Evanston WY... You must admit a GS on the Park City branch would be a bit of a stretch

Thanks Otto!  That means a lot coming from you.  My son Ben is responsible for this train and all of it, except the Fine N-Scale PFE Express Reefer, are his purchases and is composed of WOT and MT cars.  I gave him two of my finished Fine N-Scale express reefers to run with this train and I agree with you, it IS a good lookin' train and is a real attention-getter at the shows since it is so atypical of the "glamor" trains that we normally run. 

I don't think it's too much of a reach to conjecture an alternate reality where the CP was permitted to build trackage to Evanston.  I agree with you that it IS a big stretch to see a GS on the Park City Branch no matter what the alternate reality might have been!    BUT, the photographic opportunity was too big a temptation for me to pass up!  During the '30's and '40's, UP MacArthurs pulled the daily Park City Local, so the GS would have been able to at least run on the branch.

Unfortunately MORE imports is out of business.  LIK Enterprises Inc., may still be building models, but I am not in the loop enough to know for sure.  Certainly no N-scale models that I am aware of.

However, Brass Trains still has several MORE/LIK engines available in N-scale, but their inventory gets smaller almost daily.  Gotta remember that when these engines were originally introduced, they sold for almost $1,400 bucks...and when you look closely at them, you can see why.  Lots of thoughtful, extra detailing that puts them in a class with the last run of N-scale steam from Overland Key (thanks to Jason's correction!).  Now that they are selling at Brass Trains for about half the original price, you can see why I think they're a really good deal.  If I were modeling the SP in the 40's and 50's, Mr. Wallet would definitely be skinnier!
