My "update" is having just returned from not quite two weeks in Nebraska, for the UPHS convention, railfanning and work projects. Slide show here.

I'm not sure if there are "rules" about how we post in this thread, but I wanted to include the links
to peoples' work with my comments, because, well, man... this is some good work and it bears
seeing again!  And then when I put in a few photos of my layout work, well, this got a little long.

There's a lot of impressive work in here this week.   Mark (spookshow), your scratchbuilt styrene structure looks wonderful!
Dave (Vollmer), as always, shows a "layout on a door" that look better than most room-sized layouts.  No wonder
it is getting into the Kalmbach book!

Fresh out of the Juniata paint shop and in time to head to the N Scale Weekend in Bedford PA in a couple of weeks.

A+!  Nicest K4 I've ever seen.  I'd prefer it to the PSC brass one.   Those drivers and valve gear really make it!

==============

Arch enemy to UP's and my beloved FEF.....   Northern Pacific A4

Hey, that's great.  I'm going to do one with your shell, as you know.  What mechanism is under that,
and where did you get the centipede tender?
(I'm going to use a Pecos River Brass NYC Niagara under mine....
... and all the NYC fans cringe!)

=============================
And finally, an actual update from my own work...

Here's how the layout is coming along.  I haven't posted any photos in a long time, so things have changed a good bit.

Got trees and ground cover onto the hill in the island.  I sure am glad I saved a lot of trees from the previous
layout.  There are about 150 trees in this.  To the right, you can see the laser wood NP depot kit I finally
finished, with its dirt/gravel parking area and etched bass chainlink fencing.  In the background, you can see
the completed long curved trestle.

Some of the trestle, rock cuts, a little water, my little boat behind the trestle.

The yard on the right hand wall, with servicing structures, industrial flats against the wall, and roundhouse

Finally, a complete shot

Great work again this week everyone. During Golf season I do not get a lot of time to do any modeling but with the PGA championship on this weekend I have had time to model as I watched. I have wanted to try using oils for weathering like John from N-Scale addiction has. I did some well cars that came out good. With a little more practice this will be a great way to weather. Thanks for the idea John.

Not much personal RR stuff for me the past few weeks, as many of the projects are in a holding pattern while waiting for etchings and/or parts and/or funds.  I did manage to start "updating" a stock GG1 to Conrail by removing the PC markings from a stock unit.

I have to try and find a picture of 4885 in Conrail livery to see if it retained its PRR-Roman style numbers.

UPDATE:  I found a pic.  The unit kept its PRR-Roman numbers.

We have a winner, 2x12' in N, Code 55 main, 40 sidings and spur (main).
Thank you DKS and DS for the inspiration. DS is right, if this is modeled
like Lance's Miami industrial district, it could be really cool. Pondering
which season to model, green and Summer looks real decent. But Fall
or early Winter might be grand. Looking at a MP15 with a hack and
some hoppers, tank cars and gondolas to start.

This week I "snowed" the snowshed #1...

...and began the process of installing it deep in McRae canyon...what fun that is.

Much scenery filling left to do.

Trees trees and more trees.  I can now say about 1/3 of the mountain is completely covered and I am just about out of trees from my first batch.  So this coming week should be fun as I start the tedious process of making more trees so I can move along.

Where I started from last week:

What I've completed since:

Modeling the L&N, well at least a few times a year.

Jim really love this picture with the addition of the road.  Really helps make the scene.
