They now say:

Yes. My initial review was the reason they retooled the car. They sent me the retooled replacements and they still suck. I was trying to write an article on them, but the models are just so crude I had nothing to work with. I have seen more accurate Comet II cars made from Lego.

I still will pay $500 to anyone who can design a Comet II coach and cab. Bryan, I am looking at you and your better-than-FUD contractor. Same thing goes with the Kawasakis.

Are true plans in hand for the Comet II, or have they just been drawn for the magazines?  Seems to me (other than PerFactory) that a hybrid RP/etched master would be the best way to go.

What are your feelings about the Long Island works Kawasakies?

They are worse than the Comets. The MBTA Kawasaki should be tapered in at the botom, sort of like a bathub. The model isn't. The details are gross and they don't even offer window inserts. Yuk.

Bryan, there were plans in MR or RMC several years ago, but I don't know of anyone who has the actual building plans. The slab sides of the car would lend themselves to etched metal very well. I need 25 cars (20 coaches and 5 cabs). and would pay $25-30 each. But they would need to be quality cars.

There would have to be more people to "buy in" to a potential project.  The $500 would barely cover production materials for a 25-piece run, let alone the digital model building.  The KV caboose project for example is way beyond that just in the fabricating of the components to build the masters for casting, and they still aren't finalized.

I believe I have the Comet II tech drawing scanned on my server taken from the original (or close to it) tech drawing from when I attempted get these fabricated along with several other cars.

I"ll check later one when I get home to see what I exactly have.

I just checked all the files I have on my server and the only technical diagrams I have for Comets is for the Comet I.

I know I have some stuff on flash drives, I'll try to check them this weekend.

OK, after a Bestine bath,

Application of details (which included several bits snapping apart, and one grab iron going flying of into the void),

And painting, I wound up with this (lost a handrail stanchion during painting):

I've still got some work to do, but I have to say that I'm grateful to the PRR for the paint scheme.

After
paint is applied does it mask the weding cale stepping?  Wanting to try something if the paint does indeed cover the sins of the RP process...

That looks pretty damn nice to me and I am not a fan of the big electrics.

What I am waiting for is some Osgood Bradley (American Flyer) coaches.THe Gilbert American Flyer S gauge cars look real nice on my On30 layout, but I want some commuter trains for my N scale layout.

Can you identify the pantograph used and a source for it?

Good work on your model and thank you for illustrating it here - the 3D printed model concept is a prominent topic at present.
