New Walthers Product - Walthers N

It looks like Walthers is getting away from the Proto N naming and has started a new product code 929 Walthers N.

Under this line is a new run of RS-2's and 0-8-0's. The RS-2's are new roads for the most part. The 0-8-0 mirrors the first batch with new numbers.

The original batch over 3 years ago was $189.99 retail. Not a horible price increase considering the state of things.

They had too do something with the name because if they ketp the Walthers Proto name on it, the dealer wholesale price would have been 10% higher which means the street price would be higher and a tougher sell of a product that didn;t do so well to begin with....at least in the 0-8-0's case.

I thought the 0-8-0 was s'posed to be a good runner. It rates an A in Spookshow's book.

I might be interested in one of these. I'm just sayin' I think the price tag is a little hefty, particularly when compared to some of Bachmann's latest DCC-equipped steamers.

According to the announcement, it is an RS3, not an RS2.  So, it looks like we will have Atlas, Bachmann, and Walther RS3s

My mistake.  If you read all the way to the bottom of the page when you click on the individual roadnames, it looks like they are RS2s after all.  Understandable error.  They do look a lot a like.

Yup. They just had to climb on that UP bus just 'cause they had 5 RS-2's, which didn't even have MU.

SP&S had RS-3's. A couple in mustard and brown would've been nice.

I think I am in for an 0-8-0.  If they did SP&S on the RS unit I would have to buy a couple.

            The 0-8-0's had very delicate ends on the connecter wires between the locomotive and tender,it was also hard to tell which wire plugged into which. The spacing distance between loco and tender was quite a gap. After perminentlly connecting (wireing) together and making the coupling distance closer,my two locos an NP and a Great Undec run very nicely.The one downside they do not come apart so they can not be stored in the nice boxes they came in. Nate Goodman (Nato).

Yes, the connection between loco and tender was the source of most of its troubles. Forces generated by the relatively stiff wire harness caused the loco to tip, either nose-up or nose-down, which resulted in loss of pickup/traction. Performance and appearance are both vastly improved by replacing the harness with a hardwired bundle of much finer wire. (For me, since I had no need for DCC, things were even better since I could omit most of the wires.)
