I got the legs, not half bad for $22. What did you use to extend them? Is it a tight fit? Im afraid those extensions contribute to the table wobble?

The benchwork is complete!  Please disregard the crocks and the books/magazines, which are being used as weights to hold down the foam while the adhesive sets up.  As you can see, I was able to successfully install the 16" x 33" piece to complete the benchwork.  I cut down an 18" HCD to make the piece.



Here's how I secured that 16" x 33" piece cut from the 18" HCD.  I used corner braces and mending plates.  Since it can clearly hold up twenty or thirty pounds of crocks, it should be fine.  When I install the 3/16" Masonite fascia, that should give it even more strength.





Now, I know I said that the benchwork was complete, but I have about 2/3rds of a piece of an 18" HCD left over that could create a small extension towards the hot water heater.  Hmm.

I used 1" electrical conduit to extend the legs.  It just slides over the table legs.  I also bought a piece of dowel that fits inside the conduit that accepts tee nuts for adjustable feet.  Some self-tapping screws secure the dowel in the conduit and the conduit to the table legs.  I use carriage bolts as feet with wing nuts as jam nuts.  I can give you a close up, if necessary.  FYI, this is the same table construction that Marty McGuirk used on the Carolina Central.  If you have those articles, it will give you the details.

The extended legs might add to the shakiness, but that trade off is worth the raised table.  My track is at a nice height to operate while standing.

You did get a little more flex in that box than what you requested.

On the note of the possible extension, how much room is there? Looks like a good opportunity to extend the A&R to another industry or two.

Haha!  I didn't even realize that we had upped the number of track.  That will come in very handy.  As always, much appreciated.

The short term problem is the availability of #5 turnouts, which will prevent me from installing Raeford permanently for now.  I'm looking forward to getting the SBD loop in, so I can stretch the legs of my trains.

EDIT: The good news is that I did a little bit of deconstruction in Aberdeen's yard this morning to prepare it for the revised track plan.  This increased my stock of #5 turnouts by two!  I now have an inventory of exactly two #5 turnouts.

If this link works, you'll be on a Google Books page that allows you to preview a book.  On Page 81 of Marty McGuirk's "N Scale Model Railroading," there's a diagram and instructions to describe the table leg construction.  If that's not good enough (or doesn't work), I'll try to take a picture.  The problem that I have is that I can't flip the layout over anymore to get a good angle.
