On my LP dealer project, I backfilled the retaining wall with lightweight spackling and fixed the scar with some ground foam.  I'm unfortunately out of my "concrete" colored spray paint, so I'm held up on finishing the wall.  The pavement has its base coat of paint, but all of the propane tanks, piping, and accessories are going to have to take a bath in some paint stripper.  My impatience, poorly mixed paint, or bad weather led to an awful mess that will require starting over.  Does anyone know if 91% alcohol will affect the joints glued together with liquid styrene cement?

It shouldn't, but I'd test first on some glued-together scrap. Styrene glues work by dissolving the surfaces of the joint, which then "weld" when the glue/solvent evaporates. Alcohol doesn't dissolve styrene (technically, yes it does, but at a rate measurable in months). Just don't use denatured alcohol, use drug store 91%. Hardware-store denatured alcohol contains petroleum distillates which may or may not affect the plastic.

Thanks, Mike.  I would expect that the fresh paint (Rustoleum primer) shouldn't require a long time in the bath, minimizing the risk of adverse effects of the alcohol.

Rod,

I think I used that product years ago.  It did work well.  But, the advantage of 91% alcohol is that it's cheap, and I can get it from the corner drug store.

Thanks,

Which applicator did you order? Did you find a decent price on one or pay up for the Noch $180 monster? I've been trying to get around to modifying my fly swatter but it hasnt made it into the queue yet for hobby time.

Peter,

I ordered the Original GrassTech for $34.95 plus shipping ($40.90 total) from Grass Tech USA.

I have long hesitated to buy one of the Noch static grass applicators for $180.00 (why so damn expensive?!), and I have flirted with the idea of building one.  But, I was too lazy to gather the parts.  Now that I discovered the GrassTech for a fraction of the cost, I'm not so sure that I would have saved much money building my own, especially considering that I would also have to build the thing and not electrocute myself in the process.

The fly swatter version like GrassTech can be built for around $6.

The Noch is a totally different beast.

Had not heard of that one. Interesting option. Might have to spring for one. The Noch version is out of my price range.
