I missed this one completely... anyone else hear about this ?

CP Rail, ATSF and B&M... might get some people's attention...but this was certainly a quiet annoucnement....
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Announced a long time ago actually and in the process of shipping at the moment. The CP numbers correspond to units used in both Vermont and on the International of Maine Division.

Yes; the IoMD was virtually the only place they used the RS2's...they ended their careers there if i recall.... RS 3's mostly in Canada although not exclusively.

I guess I must have missed this annoucnement when it was made because it caught me by surprise.....

It's interesting, I've always liked the Southern tuxedo scheme, but I HATE that green one. I don't understand it.

The SOU green scheme and the B&M maroon is both wrong... the SR scheme should have pale white not a true gray color and the B&M maroon looks way too purple.

Shame that such a nice model will be marred by such mistakes.

Pud, the five ALCO built ones spent their lives on the CP's IoMD and the line into Vermont, however the four MLW built RS2's were initially assigned to Sudbury or White River or thereabouts. The MLW units got around a little more than the ALCO's.

It's possible they had the original color matching right, just not correct for the photographed locomotive color. The B&M units were painted with a gold primer, had the stripes masked, and then sprayed with a purply-maroon which looked much redder over the gold.

Heh, CP kept many employed figuring out new configurations of carbody filters over the years. Still see some mods to the SD40-2 fleet to this day.

:|       It is very hard to tell from one photo if the B&M Maroon color is off. Heck, the model photo may suffer from poor lighting.I was never fortunate to see this scheme in real life, but the two custom painted B & M F-7's done by Bev-Bel I own  are a different color shade than the Walthers Photo, but who is to say which is correct. I will most definately agree though that the gray on the Southern locomotive should be white.                     Nate Goodman (Nato).

Yes the BM maroon looks to be too dark to me. And yes the B&M painted their units gold first, masked the stripes, and then painted the maroon, which on some units in the 50's the maroon was almost a deep chalked red.

The maroon did fade quickly. You can see 1542 (RS3)here, 6 years apart. The second photo has RS2 1500 in the black widow scheme, which I would like to see done.

But then again film temperature has a big effect on what we "see". The best thing is to go by actual paint codes or chips, because as you see in this SW9, the maroon is quite purple looking

I am wondereing if painting the fuel tank completely black on the walthers unit would help with how it looks. Walthers/LifeLike did get a good version of the maroon on the SW-9 and the SW-8.
