Hi, all,

I was lucky to be able to go to the Western Prototype Modelers Meet
2011 in San Bernadino today.

Here's the URL for the photo album:

And a couple of pics:

Wow, some really nice work by everyone again this week!

I am very close to completing a pair of Reading and Northern SD40-2's for duty on my CP D&H division around Scranton:

No modeling for me; been on vacation.  Got frustratingly close to the RailBQ, but still too far away.  Wish I could have made it.

I did get a chance to grab a beer with Davefoxx on Tuesday.  We talked about my track plan, and he gave me some interesting ideas.  Stay tuned to the engineering report for further on that.  Good to meet you, Dave!

Just spent over an hour under the layout, fixing up a broken Tortoise.  Not an easy task with tri-focals....

Also the Tehachapi lighting refurbishment project is going well.   Amazing how many watts it can take to light up even a 4x6.  Raising the layout made a big difference too (it's now just under collarbone height).

Next I gotta re-do the backdrop (after I learn DraftSight)  ;)

Daryl, that bridge is looking tremendous.  What a focal point for your RR.

I second the motion; that bridge is excellent !
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Started on the basic outline of my river bed.  Will hopefully begin adding the basic mountain forms this week.

This from the guy that was an hour away from me recently and couldn't make time to meet up...  ;)  Believe me, it was frustrating to be so close and not be able to make the RailBQ.  We were even able to swing by the Summerdale Diner for lunch one day on our way through.

Good to meet you finally, too, Eric!  I'm not sure any of my ideas are worth much, but, hopefully, our brainstorming session at the Iron Hill Brewery will give you some inspiration.  Heh, you could name that mine the Iron Hill Mine.   ;)

Unfortunately, I had to miss the Rail-B-Q, too.  :(

After another spring and summer away from the layout I finally made it back down to the train room with the fruits of my birthday gift certificate from MB Klein. Details here: http://p4500.blogspot.com/2011/09/layout-update-20-now-were-rolling.html

A full weekend of goonery, first along the Nickel Plate:

Russ gives his G-scale fingers a shot at running some N scale trains...

Ben yucks it up and switches the mine.

Some PC power works a MOW extra headed toward the junction at Tucker

Meanwhile, the Phantom of the Opera(tors) grimaces behind the console of the mighty pipe organ...

...and tonight's funny caption contest.

A splendid time was had by all, thanks to Eric (seusscaboose) for hosting.  Then on Saturday, we were off to the wilds of Central PA for the fall CRHS RailBQ.

I stayed over at Plaza de Swinn in Marysville, (Thanks, Russ and Karen!) and went to help set everything up, then spent the rest of the day running around on the softball field like a blithering idiot.  I made the conscious decision to avoid taking pictures of trains... you seen one NS fathead, you've seen 'em all.  There were some interesting CR cars that went by, but these were recorded by plenty of others, so my efforts (or lack thereof) won't be missed.

The highlight of the day was pitching the final inning of the softball game, managing to get a strike out and a grounder for the first two outs, giving up a couple of runs, but not enough to lose, then closing it up with a comebacker to the mound.  I also managed to go 4 for 4 and drive in a couple of runs.  We won't talk about those several errors, though... :-X.  Even better was coming off the field with no torn ligaments, muscles, or pants.

Can't wait for the next one in the spring.
