UP 4-8-2 7869 progress . No more loose wires , now a working DC loco . The rest is weeks of cosmetic surgery .

We finally got the carfloat & apron installed, water effects and some basic ground cover just around the pier done.






Following some advice by M. David K. Smith, we ended up screwing the float to the layout to ensure rail alignment.
Still need to add some more details: ropes, more weathering on deck, dockside details, etc.
But it's nice to have the track 100% done, along with our staging / connection to the off-layout world.

After being away for a good portion of the summer, I have been visiting the past Weekend Updates and am pleased to see progress on so many layouts.  After a dismal spring and early summer here, the first order of business upon arrival in the U.K. for my holiday was some sun, sand and surf . . .




Then it was off to the nearest tracks to photograph some of the numerous steam express trains now plying the mainline . . .




At the local UK hobby shop I happened upon a nice range of diecast N gauge vehicles from Oxford, including this Land Rover . . .

Tree making continues, and I painted in the treeline.  This scene is starting to get near completion, just more trees.




Starting to rough in the pulp mill complex.  It will vaguely be shaped like the Walther's version, but larger and following some Canadian prototypes I saw in Quebec and Ontario this summer.  The track in the foreground will be hidden.

Richie, It is OK to take a breath in between steamer builds. 

I'm 65 , N brass steam is not being pumped out , so as I see it I have not a lot of time to do what I can with the time and the little talent I have . Not too many age >75 modelers . It's not so much a bucket list than a do it while I can list . I like modeling , it makes me think , learn , plan , invent , anticipate , and gets rid of all that dirty money . For that I wear the  proudly .

Made some more progress on my SP G-70-12 gon. The BLMA gon got a quick coat of paint on Saturday:





The gon also had some decals applied and a fade coat on Sunday - hopefully some photos later.
