Progress on the WBTR with pictures

Howdy all! Well after being off for two weeks due to surgery,, I was able to get a bunch of work done on the new garage layout.

After using up all the old pieces from the last layout and making some new sections, all of the benchowrk is done,,, the backdrop is up. The only thing I lack is taping and floating the seams in the backdrop and finishing up helix #2. I got all the homasote done also. One thing I did was to get rid of all the scrap lumber and stuff I was not using. Garage is much cleaner now.

I just need to come up with a yard plan that will fit in a 13' x 20" space. I plan on the yard being worked from both ends. The rough plan has a 10' a/d track, 10',9',8',7' and 5'-10 1/2" yard tracks.

I would love to find some other n scale modelers in the area to work on the layout,,but so far it is just lil ole me. Like I said earlier and from the pictures you can tell I used alot from the old layout. I figure that each staging yard on the lower section will 16' long.

Here is a rough drawing of the yard,, it is a work in progress.

  Well there ya have it.

Any ideas and comments welcome.. have a good one.

Adios wyatt

Wyatt, here's the yard plan David K Smith whipped up for me.  It takes up about the same amount of space you're talking about, only it's folded at each end to wrap around the room.  The yard tracks themselves are about 6' long, and the drawing pretty well scales out to what I'm building.  In my space, though, I'm able to get 10 bowl tracks in, plus the A/D and engine escape tracks, PLUS the three main lines around the perimeter.

I'm just now starting to construct the yard, so feel free to play along at home if you like!

Wyatt, Looking good!  I would come down to help but it would cost me about $200 in gas.

Sounds like you're learning with the cleanup initiative and WAF management.  Life is good!

Wyatt, the one thing your yard design has going is that the long class tracks are to the rear, so you will be able to see each uncoupling ramp.  The one Lee posted has more capacity, but would be harder to switch at either end, especially with the compound ladders.

I also know from experience that switch leads on 180 degree (or even 90) curves lead to the loco pushing the first car off the track, so the thing to incorporate from Lee's plan would be the nearly straight switch lead in front of the TT, which would also look way cool to have the work being done right in front of a Walthers TT.  In your case, the "straight" switch lead would be over your helix.  A very slight uphill pull and downhill push always helps ease the job a bit, too.
